    1985 ford crown vic?

went to start my car a few mornings ago and once again it did not wanna start. it cranked and really made a great effort to start. this happened to me a month and a half ago and i ended up adding oil to it and then it started up, mind you it was not low on oil. and yes i know that its not good to overfill the oil. causes bad bearings rings etc. the point is i am trying to figure out why adding oil would all of the sudden make it start. It also seems to be very wattered down, it doesnt seem to be antifreeze that i can tell anyways, but fuel in the oil would be my guess. it gets very bad gas mileage and i have owned 4 of these cars and this one has the worst gas mileage. 9.5 MPG. as of right now it seems to be about 3.5 quarts overfull. so why is my oil getting thinned out? any way of telling if its fuel or antifreeze. i will be draining the oil tomorrow and wanna know if i am looking for something in particular in the oil. also i have to supress the gas pedal ever so slightly to start.

The very first thing to do is to make sure the Thick Film Ignition (TFI) module has been changed on your car. Ford had numerous lawsuits and recalls relating to their TFI ignition modules of that vintage. It's an easy part to change.
