    wats there to b confused?

our current processors r 32 bit, but they even run 16 bit programs dont they?

n if this is confusing then u cannot install XP then... it was launched before 64 bit processors were even concieved!!.....
    dont listen to that...

basic bottom lining is that win 98 can b run on 64 bit processors or even on the future 256 bit PROCESSORS!!!!

32 bit software do work on 64 bit processors.. even though u also get separate 64 bit versions of some software that are best suited for 64 bit...

More depends on whether u have Intel (Itanium) or AMD (Athlon 64)

Read this for AMD : http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...5E9503,00.html

With AMD64 technology, the AMD Athlon 64 processor is fully compatible with existing software, while enabling a seamless transition to 64-bit applications. Both 32- and 64-bit applications can run virtually simultaneously and transparently on the same platform. AMD64 technology enables new, cinematic computing experiences and capabilities, in addition to increased performance. AMD64 technology allows end users to take advantage of new innovations such as real-time encryption, more life-like games, accurate speech interfaces, cinema-quality graphic effects, and easy-to-use video and audio editing.
    For Intel: http://www.karbosguide.com/hardware/module3e11.htm

There have been speculations about a lousy IA-32 performance. All the programs we use (including Windows 2000) are of 32bits design. This corresponds with the P6 processors (like Pentium III etc.) which also are of 32 bits architecture.

Now Intel comes with a 64 bit processor. It has to emulate the 32 bit instructions, to execute 32 bit programs like Windows . An emulation is costly, it takes power from the processor. This is also the case with the Itanium; it has to translate each of the IA-32 instruction. Some magazines have claimed that the Itanium will be terrible slow executing IA-32 programs.
This doesnt mean AMD is better coz AMD link is an Ad by AMD itself while for intel, the link is of a critical review of Intel Processors

You are absolutely right. But I have only one software which only works with Windows 98 & Me. That software is "Parashara's Light" a astrology software. This is the only reason I want to use Windows 98. I know there are many astrology related software but I like this because this is the best for me.

goto the .EXE (program)... right click... n then goto (just below open) RUN AS....

then run it on WIN98 mode... but this option will only come if the program has failed to start atleast one time..
