i've tried 2 dial-up modem, the first was cnet singlepoint and now i'm using d-link. they're both 56Kbps v.92. but as ixue has mentioned they pretty much has the same specifications.

both of the modem i've used works well!

as far as functions are concerned.. all modem are basically the same. the difference will lie in the brand of the modem (i.e. durability)

among the brands, US robotics will stand out as its brands are very durable

but if you are to compare the functionality of ambient 56k and US robotics 56K modem, you will get just about the same results as they work the same way

like what they've said, all dial up modems are the same, i'm using d-link for for than 3yrs and havent encountered any problem.

all of them can handle 56k in transferring data...

just my 2c

how far is your telephone line from your phone jack? it is said that the shorter your telephone line from the phone jack, the fastest internet connection you have.

agree with that!!
also check your telephone cable quality!

it could also be that the time you surf the net, the ISP server is loaded.

im not sure what your ISP setup is, but most dial up ISP's use something like area displacement. for example, an area with a radius of say 5km is considered area A by your ISP and the next 5km is area B... what happens is that they will provide speeds of say 56kbps to area A and allocate another 56kbps for area B.

now, if many users are using the internet in Area A at say 7am and only few at area B, those surfing at area B will get faster speeds than those compared to area A as the 56kbps allotment is divided into fewer users at the moment

so that could be your problem....

OR, it could be that your ISP is just slow because of saturation.. too many people are using it at the same time
