Defintely the xbox can't play games meant for the Xbox 360. If that is the case, why would Microsoft even bother to release the new console ??? But the Xbox 360 is capable of playing Xbox games.

da 360 will only play the best selling games that were on da xbox and den later on microsoft might think about getting the rest of the games that were on the xbox playable on the 360
