you can try this one mate! just follow the instructions:
1. Right click "My Computer"
2. Click on "Manage" to launch the Computer Management application.
3. On the right which is the console tree you'll find "Disk Management" then choose it.
it will now show you the drives and their file system either their FAT/NTFS.
4. Choose the drive you want to fomat, then right click on it, then choose format.
hope this help!!!

Ok m1.. how about make a start up disk?
Insert a 3.5 floppy in the floppy drive.
Click [Start] [My Computer] then highlight the A:\ drive and right click.
Click [Format] to open the window to create an MS DOS startup disk
Then copy file format.com from c:\windows\system32 into A:\
Boot from A:\ then run A:\format D:
Hope this helps.

give this one a try too mate!
this instructions are commonly done to install OS, but you'll use it not to install but to format your selected drive.
1. set the CMOS commonly known as BIOS setup to boot CD first
2. then put on the Win XP CD in the CD drive
3. use force shutdown to restart your PC without entering Windows, you can do this by holding the On Button on your CPU.
4. Now turn it on again, the PC will now boot using the Win OS CD.
5. follow the instructions all are in default
6. if prompted if you wanted to locate the destination of the OS select format or delete partition then create a new one afterwards.
7. Choose the drive, then format it without installing the OS.
hope this help!

Hey the problem lies in your BOOT.INI which lies in c:\
Just do this
Open Command Prompt by typing "cmd" over run
and type "edit c:\boot.ini" and del the extra partition.
*Note: Plz make a backup copy of boot.ini before making any changes incase u do something wrong*
If u cant edit the file then boot from a boot cd and edit the file,

i agree with rafay.
even if you successfully uninstalled the other OS (which in your case, you did formatted the partition which totally removed the OS), the boot up prompt will still show.
to correct this, follow rafay's procedure or...
go to control panel - folder options - view - in advanced settings, click show hidden files and folders & UNCHECK hide protected system files.
then go to drive c. double click boot (.ini).
it should look like this...
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
delete the other partition/s (usually the last line) and retain only the partition which uses your current OS.
should look like this after...
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
close its window and if ask to save, choose yes.
then, go to folder options again to hide hidden & sytem files.
remember to make a backup copy of boot.ini before editing.

try this one out.and i'm sure you will do it this time.
{don't use " " during typing.}
start->run->type "msconfig"->look for "BOOT.INI"->there is a button with written "check all paths".
i'm sure it will be telling that one of the Xp path is not availble. click "Ok".
it will ask for reboot.REBOOT it.
and its all over.
your computer will not display about the second Xp boot path.
if you get it right then plz send me a message.
