It's for QVGA version...

meaning it's for WM2003SE and below...

WM5 is VGA version which unfortunately I don't have...

don't own a WM5 PDA...

No, QVGA version means it runs at QVGA resolution (320 x 240)... it has nothing to do with the Operating System. My Eten M500 is a QVGA device running WM5.

QVGA= 320 x 240
SQVGA= Square screen QVGA (320 x 320 or 240 x 240, usually in the case of smartphones or HP devices)
VGA= 640 x 480
SVGA= Square screen VGA (haven't heard of any yet)

true but i'm guessing the resolutions might be tricky when using in a different device...

the QVGA version might not show full screen on a VGA unit, it might take up only half or 1/4 of the screen and gameplay would be lousy...

it's best to use the correct program set for the correct resolution device...

also, i've tried WM5 programs before on my WM2003SE unit and it just crashes...

so this QVGA version (made for WM2003SE and older) might not be compatible to WM5 devices...

Hey, no one's heated mayn... this is education for all: myself, Jay-boogie, n00bs...

But yeah, WM5 apps won't work for WM2003SE because they're not backward compatible. But WM5 has been programmed to be backward-compatible with quite a few 2003SE apps. Most application installers have two versions of the software, one for 2003SE and WM5. Given that there are also VGA WM2003SE devices, resolution problems aside games run just fine if they're forward compatible (and most are)... but you occasionally run into that painful title (Rayman Ultimate) that isn't, but that's a problem of software compatibility not screen resolution.

VLADIFTODI, you're one dumb fuck. Different OS's both built on a similar kernel. Go look it up on Microsoft's site. Very similar to XP versus Win98. Win98 apps can be run in XP with XP's compatibility mode (ie: backward-compatible), others don't even need this becasue the kernels are similar. Win XP specific apps WILL NOT run on 98 no matter what you do because Win98 is an obsolete OS and thus is not forward-compatible. Want to test the theory out? Try running ANY WM5 software on WM2003SE- it will not run. On the flip, try running some WM2003SE software on WM5- chances are they will run fine. A few won't. Since upgrading my OS to WM5 70% of my apps and games still run fine.

Different OS? How do you explain DOS software being able to run in Win95 or 98? How do you explain WM2002 apps being able to run in WM2003? Or to the point, how do some WM2003SE apps run fine on WM5? Whenever a newOS is released some measure of backward compatibility is incorporated- FACT. Dawg, legend or not, keep flapping em gums my way and I'll make you look even more stupid than you already do.

Direct from one of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 Developers at the Microsoft WM Blog:

http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/10/06/477999.aspx#478354

If you don't want to click the link, I'll save you the trouble:

Barry, I completely agree that a big WM value proposition is the developer story. But I don't see how upgrades directly affect that story. You can write code for WM2003 and have it run there, on WM2003SE, and WM5. Whether the WM5 devices are upgraded WM2003SE devices or new store-bought ones shouldn't really affect you as a developer.

If you're saying that you don't want to target WM5 specific features until there are more WM5 devices out there (and that upgrades would speed this along), that's a valid concern. But, in the mean time, you can still target previous versions and have your apps run great on WM5. In my book, that's what makes for a developer-friendly environment.

Go ahead... I dare you to put your foot further up your mouth.
