iPhone 3G firmware 2.x jailbreak, unlock, activation

iPhone 3.0 Betas are iTunes 8.2 Pre-Releases are pouring out of Apple like pancakes from IHOP on a Sunday morning. Apple today released iPhone 3.0 Beta 5 (Build 7A312g) and a new iTunes 8.2 pre-release to developers. Only 8 days after beta 4 being released this release was a surprise.

At this time, there’s no word on any new features on beta 5 but there’s surely some big bug or security fixes that made Apple release this new beta just 8 days after releasing beta 4. Like the previous beta, iTunes 8.2 pre-release is required to install beta 5.

With only a month to go until Apple’s sold out Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco where the iPhone OS 3.0 is certain to be a featured topic of discussion, Apple may be increasing the pace of developer releases to begin polishing things for the public showing.

Bout time, right? RipDev have released InstallerApp for Windows. It took longer than they expected but the only thing that matters is that it’s finally out. If you don’t know what InstallerApp is, it’s a desktop application to install Apple Unapproved 3rd Party applications onto your jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch via USB. Both Cydia repositories and Installer repositories are supported, so that’s a plus.

InstallerApp works on anything from XP to Windows 7, so which ever version of Windows you’re using you should be good! InstallerApp requires iTunes so make sure you have that installed before hand.
InstallerApp license costs $7USD and the license ties to the devices so it works regardless on which platform you use it on.

To unlock 3G you need sim like yes sim or rebel sim along with your own sim if you are not on official network.

Apple officially released unlocked iPhone 3G for Hong Kong market. Those phones do not need any kind of unlock. The price is about USD700.

Exisiting iPhone 3Gs are not unlockable directly yet. A Third-party sim is required to use it in unsupported network. But it will be unlocked soon.

hey guys,
i want to know what does the "unsupported network" means...

i am in india and i have airtel network here...which i am using....and also the IPHONE is available with this network. ie the airtel is supplying iphone in india
so can i unlock the IPHONE without the use of any special SIM

Yup 3g iphones are not unlockable yet.
and yes you can unlock 3g iphone via yes sim or any other programmed sim.

hey jonny,
just to remind u that the 3rd post says that iphone 3g can be unlocked but u say that it can not be done....so who is wrong u or that user....

secondly if u replied to my post, then i dont think that u even read my post as what i asked in there has nothing to do with what u have posted...

It's so simple! If you use a third party sim card to unlock your iphone 3g, then it means that you can use it in all cellular networks. By supported/unsupported, one means that the networks that are included/excluded in the list of operators in iPhone os. Usually, new networks are added in every new firmware release by Apple.

There are also some 3G iPhones are not locked to any networks by default. Take a look at Hong Kong website of apple for more info...

3rd post says it is not locked and not "unlocked" both means different.
I thought you got it from when I mentioned "programmed sim"
but anyway @nokiamaster has clarified better.
