need help my PC is infected

well, i think it's a worm inside my laptop. this one creates a folder within a folder inside "my documents" (mostly it says 41 kb in size). Then if you click on it, it will just like clicking "explore my documents".

it also removed the "folder options" on my "tools" toolbar.

any tips on how to delete this?

dude u should run ur antivirus scan software
or u can right click on that and scan that thing if the worm or any thing is in it, antivirus can remove it
it depends on ur antivirus
Kaspersky is the best antivirus in the world especially for laptops
or u can run spyware doctor for infections

My friend had the same problem once. I think the worm's name is brontok. I used kaspersky anti-virus to disinfect it.

Download & install these 3 softwares after uninstalling your existing antivirus:

1.Kaspersky Antivirus (5 or 6)
2.Spybot S & D
3.Lavasoft Ad-aware

run live updates & get the latest updates... then scan your system with all of these, one by one... your pc will be as clean as new.

ok that is caused by spyware. to restore the folders options you will need to do some registry tinkering

open registry editor (regedit.exe)
find these two entries

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win dows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

[HKEY_Users\.default\software\microsoft\w indows\currentversion\policies\explorer]

you will see this entry
NoFolderOptions

delete that string and you should now see the folder options

but this will only solve your immediate concern. if you reboot, it might still come back

so, i suggest you download ewido and/or dr alex anti spyware. the detection rates of both are superb and both can be used for free.

if you can, also post a hijackthis log. it would allow us to better understand what is running in your pc and see any actual infections

also, update your anti virus. what anti virus are you using?

hi doc, just wanted to know if spybot is just an anti-spyware or does it have a firewall as well. I was planning to install zonealarm pro but I see a lot of recommendations for spybot. which of d two do u think is better? hopefully none of them conflicts with kaspersky.

spybot search & destroy is a plain anti spyware program. it doesnt have a firewall. its high recommended since its freeware and detection rate is pretty good. though it still skips on a few infections that other anti spyware programs detect.
