devman --- very nice app, with this app i am able to tell how much ram i have left and what programs are running (including hidden ones). it gives me the option to kill the programs i dont currently need to allocate memory to those that i do need

it can also restart your phone (as a result i removed symboot) but it prompts you first unlike symboot which just restart it without your knowledge...

also, my anti virus keeps on bugging me saying symboot app was infected with a trojan virus... i didnt want to remove it before since i had no replacement software, but with this one, i have no use for symboot any longer

    ===============
about the camcorder 2 asking for serial, it seems that it only asks such for those who installed the beta version prior to installing the full retail version posted by m1v3cs

for those who didnt install the beta version, they are having no problems

dont fret though, for those who have installed the beta version previously, just use the version posted by lovekonadj

Addendum review on devman with regards to comparison review with symboot (reboot phone feature)

i did further testing on my phone. This is somewhat the extreme kind of test already. I maxed out the memory by running apps requiring heavy usage of system memory. I wanted to know if i would be able to open devman and restart my phone [or to terminate the app] (to simulate a situation wherein an app hangs due to insufficient memory). In order to solve such problem, u need to reboot the phone to refresh system memory.

Unfortunately, when system memory is maxed out, you wont be able to run devman (or most other app for that matter). However, symboot is astill able to run and reboot the phone and solve the problem of full memory overload

so, in hindsight, symboot is still a useful app in certain situations

Justek System explorer 1.8 - at first look, this seems a very useful app as it has many functions like file browser, process list, tasks list, etc. However, a close look at these apps didnt really impress me that much. Here is a rundown of its functions

file browser - just like fileman interface. convenient and easy to navigate. However, like fileman, it doesnt go around the built in protection. Hence, like fileman (and other file browsers), you wont be able to send protected items like sis files. If you are satisfied with browsers like fileman and fexplorer, this wouldnt be much of a problem for you. For those who transfer a lot of files though (especially installation files), this browser will really be frustrating as you wont be able to send certain files. You will be better off using profiexplorer (which comes bundled with profimail)

processes - lists all active processes just like in your computer. However, most of the items you will see here will baffle you. you will see multiple entries with the same name. The good part though is that you can trace what app is associated with a certain filename by highlighting an entry and choosing threads. This though will only be useful for those who like to be in control of each and every function in their phone. Most of the entries you will see here are system apps that run by default when you turn on your phone. They wont really be that useful for the average user as they wont have any need for such info

tasks - this is somewhat related to the processes function (just like on a windows XP machine when you access the task manager). however, the entries you will see here are the general entries that are running in your phone. This information is what most users will be interested to know. They will be able to see what is running in their phone. This is extremely useful as certain apps running are hidden. As with the processes function, you are given the option to kill a certain entry. killing an entry here will be a lot safer compared to the processes section as it will only show the currently running tasks, it wont include system files currently running. Hence, reducing the chance that you kill an important process needed by your phone.

however, compared to devman (another app with the same function), I liked the functionality of devman better. devman shows you a graph of available memory and it shows you how much memory each app is using. devman also has an option to view either just the apps or the threads itself (the ones that you see on the processes function).

kernel - lists kernel objects. again, like the processes function, this isnt really that useful for the average user. it contains a lot of things that you wont be able understandable to the average user

system info - among the functions of system explorer, i found this to be the most useful. it contains a shortcut to phone functions that you normally need to input some numbers to get (like the imei number and battery status). just scroll over to which info you want displayed and choose open and you get the info. no more hassles.

panic lookup - lets you look up error codes displayed by selected applications or services. didnt really get to test this function

    ======
overall, its a useful app as it has many functions rolled into just a single app. however, there are still lots of room for improvement. its a good effort to introduce an app with multiple functionality but the manufacturers still need to improve the functions. As it is, the individual apps separately catering to each of the functions provided by this app still stand out (profiexplorer vs file browser, devman vs processes/tasks).

Furthermore, average users may not find this app suitable to their needs. But, you cant discount its strongest selling point: an app with plenty of functions. Some might still opt for this app precisely because it has many function.

As for me, I'll stick with my current apps (like profiexplorer and devman) for the time being.

bluecam (and other related apps that supposedly turn your phone into a webcam) -

let me start by saying this app (bluecam) works fine. there's just a small problem, the phone keeps asking you if you want to authorize it to have access (like every few seconds) which makes the app useless. im guessing this is a new security feature with the 6630 as it seems to be working fine for 6600 (as per the feedback of other members)

*Memory monitor - works fine. Shows a graph of available memory with options for longer sample rate, save graph, kill threads, close all apps

a good app. However, there is an app that provides the same functions with additional features as well (devman-see review of devman)

*statmonitor 2.4 - after trying out ver 2.1 and it didnt work. I was curious if this version wud work. I was sumwhat elated when i noticed that on proces 2(the problematic process back in 2.1), the status bar was moving. This was gud news. I thought it wud be ok. But my joy ended when the bar stopped when it reached the end (999 on 1st run, 39 on succeeding runs). I gave it 5min but stil nothing happened. I even tried shutting down other apps which cud've been in conflict like sms counter but stil nothing.

    *Farsi sms - doesnt work

sms machine (smsmachine v1.02a_full.sis) - works ok. This works somewhat like an answering machine. It will send an sms to whoever sends u sms/mms, or voice calls with a customizable message. You can set the options for either or both. It also has a blacklist. Whoever is on the blacklist wont receive sms.

One drawback though is that if you choose close option, it wont continue to be active anymore. You will hav to minimize it (the red button used for ending calls) so that it will continue to be active.

I have tested the sms function and it works fine. I havent tested mms yet. and voice call doesnt seem to work. I ran two types of test, 1st a number that wasnt on the address book and 2nd number on the address book.

For sms, if a number isnt on the address book, it wil only be sent sms if the default response is active. If you created a custom response and set that one as active it wont send sms to numbers not on the addres book (since you wil hav to manually add which numbers are to be included in that response).

However, it doesnt seem to work if u hav more than 1 number saved under 1 contact name (for example a have the name alex saved on my address book and i have two numbers on him, one for mobile and one for telephone (home)). if this is the case, he wont be sent any sms by sms machine if he sends me any message. however, if i only have say mobile number saved under the name alex, he will get sms when sms machine is active

For voice calls, it didnt work either way. The test unit never got any sms after trying to call (short rings then cut, and full ringing until "subscriber cant be reached" message). I also tested creating a custom response but didnt work.

Fexplorer (fexplorer v1.14b_*****ed_s60_smpda.sis) - works fine. i had mixed reactions when i tried this app. it was promising enough as it had many features rolled into one app

view processes and apps currently running. apps view shows running apps including hidden ones. also shows how much memory is being consumed by a particular app, as well as free memory of the device. includes options to kill an app or thread

file browser - view properties (shortcut key #), set attributes (archive, hidden, read only, system). the set attributes function stands out as only a few file browsers are capable of such. it also has a search function. again this stands out as not many have this option. you can search through the entire phone memory and mmc for a certain file you wish to find

it also comes with an option to view files in hex mode, as well as set operator logo for any file (but im guessing it will only work for image files). the hex mode will be a very useful tool for some people who wish to edit files and changes certain values (i.e. changing attributes/money, etc in game software). this is the first browser i've come accross that has this function. while it may not be very useful for most users, for some, this alone is reason enough to get this app.

tools menu -- screenshots, compress memory, and generates text file of all installed apps. one of the functions that most people will find very useful with this app is its ability to take screenshots by pressing the shortcut keys. it doesnt matter what app you are running so long as screenshot mode is active, you can take a screenshot. i have found this very useful (as you can notice)

its ability to generate a text file of all installed apps is a useful feature. the generated file will not only contain the name of the apps but also the file location (this is useful for users of new phones since installed apps wont always have a folder named after the app but instead have number codes --e.g. texttwist is [101d6bc8]) and process id (i now get to know what process to terminate even from the processes view whereas i had to rely on the app view before). it makes tracking applications a lot more easier

it can also provide info about the phone as well as network info. it can also restart the phone. with this app, i can use this instead of task manager, memory monitor and other apps that monitor RAM

    however, it has some flaws:

inbox view.. it only shows a few messages. in my case, it only showed the mms message and its correspoding attachments (text and image). this is because it will only read one folder in the system/mail folder I(in my case it was E:system\mail)

when trying to view the contents of the memory card, the app will exit. so this rules out using this as a file browser since i am only able to view files in the phone memory. which is really odd since when i use the inbox feature it will display the mail folder in the memory card. at first, i thought it just couldnt read the memory card at all but then later on, i noticed that there is really something wrong with the app

when trying to take screenshots, you have to enable it each time the app is closed and started again even if the option 'turn screnshot' is always set to 'ON'

in the settings tab. even if screenshot media is set to mmc, it will still save in phone memory (since it cant read the memory card)

when trying to end the app in the menu (holding down menu button), it wont close. you have to switch to the app first and exit it from there.

file browser doesnt go over the protection. hence, you wont be able to send .jar, .sis, .mid files. what most people do is simple change the file name to be send the file. however, doing so will prevent the recipient from being able to access the file since they wont be able to rename the file when they received it in their inbox.

overall, a very good app. a worthy app to keep even though not all features are working. the screenshot, installed apps, hex view, and app/process view is more than sufficient for my needs. furthermore, i think the features not working have something to do with the version of the app i tried. i will check later as regards to other versions and see if there is a difference

Screen taker - as the name implies it will take pics of the screen of your mobile phone. I like this app since it does wat it says it wil. Simple app but very useful

one drawback though is that you have to name each and every screenshot u take. This cud provide bothersome at times when u wish to take succesive pics.

As compared to fexplorer which automaticaly saves the pic like the default camera app (number sequence). However, stil compared to fexplorer, this app's screenshots only take les than 10kb as compared to fexplorer's 30kb plus (they use the same resolution of 176x20

also, u wont be able to choose where pics are saved. They wil be saved in phone memory (c:\nokia\images). The good thing is that each pic is just les than 10kb so it shudnt eat too much space

note: wasnt able to save the screenshot as i wasnt able to transfer the image before reformatting my mmc. im not using this anymore as im now using screenshot for symbian.. wait for my review of that

012345, i havent come across a similar app to call counter, still looking for one since call counter doesnt work

as for a review of anti-virus, i'll just see if i can squeeze it in. i had tried a previous version of mcafee but it doesnt work (in fact, word was that it was even infected with some sort of malware). not sure about the current release though.

keep in mind though that there are plenty of anti-virus apps available. NOT ALL are what they seem to be (for example, i just make a sis with files containing a virus but name it mcafee anti-virus.sis). there have been many cases like this (the best known would be the comwarrior virus which says it is a security warning from symantec), as this is the most efficient way for the virus to spread. so be careful. try to download it first in your PC and scan it to check whether it contains a virus or not.

    Veto 6600 - work ok

app forge app, will install an additional app named booster

only has four options: accept messages from friends, accept unknown messages, allow all, block all

no custom settings like setting it to block only a certain number

not that easy to use. i had to minimize then switch back to this app to get it running smoothly

nice app since it does what it says it will. however, there are other apps out there that are far better than this

Sysman (symbianware sysman v1.01 s60 symbianOS cr4cked SymBoss) - works fine. a useful app with plenty of functions.

replaces the default menu view (pressing and holding the menu button). provides additional views like memory usage of apps running. available memory, available disk space on phone and mmc. if i wanted to check memory or disk space, i just press the menu and i can get the info i need in a few seconds.

also contains options to kill app (or pressing c --like the default), list/grid view, app info, set loop scroll, and restart phone. the restart phone feature will be very useful in certain situations like when memory is low or some problem occurs and you wish to restart the phone (you dont have to turn it off and on again). I find the restart phone feature extremely useful for my needs as i frequently need to restart my phone due to low memory.

also has set auto-loop feature (when browsing through apps and reaching the bottom, when this is enabled, it will automatically revert back to the first item in the list). but its not enabled by default. you have to manually enable it.

this is the view from the main console of sysman (when you start sysman app). in the general options, you can add your own profile (favorites) or simply customize the default one used. in the actions options, you can add shortcuts to an app, speed dial, speed contact, etc. In short, you can almost add and define shortcut keys to almost any app you want.

i like the idea that you can add shortcut keys to a certain app. this will be useful if for example i play the game texttwist often, i dont need to open menu and open the app from there anymore. I can just assign a shortcut for it so i can just press the shortcut keys whenever i want to run that game.

the look & feel options - most features work (the danger levels). the bar colors is what you will see when you access the menu. Im not really sure what the name format is for though. if its something to do with how names in contacts would appear (first-last name and last-first name) then its not working--which is why im not sure what it is for

unfortunately, it also has its flaws. on the menu, it will only show tasks that aren't hidden (still the same as the default). you will still need to use other apps like devman or fexplorer to be able to view all apps running (as well as threads).

the next view and prev view, as far as i could tell, makes no difference.

Someone once recommended that i use this app instead of devman for monitor active apps. if i were to compare the two apps in terms of listing running apps and available memory, I'd still go for devman since it shows you all apps running (sysman only shows those that are not hidden); it shows you all processes, or threads, running (sysman doesnt); devman shows a graph with options to save a screenshot of the graph

overall, its a very useful app. being able to have an improved view when you press and hold the menu button is reason enough to keep this app. Furthermore, its ability to allow you to assign shortcuts for almost any app/games makes it a very welcome app.
