Now you can add motorola droid to the list of hacked / unlocked devices that give users more control over their phone. In Android world a hacked android is called to be rooted as opposed to being unlocked or jailbroken.

Android forum has instructions that supposedly show you how to hack and unlock your droid device to gain administrator access.

You can modify the operating system, change the handset's visual theme, customize the operating system and add multi-touch gestures and even add function to your droid that may have been restricted before.

Before you continue to read the instructions and make your droid rooted, rooting your Droid could brick your droid making it essentially useless and almost certainly void the device's manufacturer warranty. So think carefully before you decide to try hacking your device.

The instructions here for hacking your device look pretty clear and easy. After the Droid has been rooted you can gain root access to the phone.

But as I mentioned earlier, unless you already know how to modify to the Android OS, rooting your Droid won't do much for you at the moment. That's because software designed to take advantage of hacked Droids doesn't exist yet.
