Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and Intelligent Comment: I purchased this book a little over three years ago and I am starting to re-read it now. It has a strong medical leaning compared to other books that I have on the subject, but ultimately I found myself looking at this one often. It is laid out in an order that makes sense to be able to find what you are looking for and the explainations are straight forward and provide the reader with a bit of credit as to being able to understand things. A comprehensive guide as to things that arre occurring in your body, what is normal and things to be aware of. It helps alleviate some anxiety (I expcet less this time) and gives you things to keep in mind to make sure you are progressing properly. Of course if you think something is wrong make sure to get real life medical advice. Always better to be cautious. Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Asset! Comment: I bought this book as soon as I found out I was pregnant. It is full of information about how the baby is growing along with what is going on in your body. I find it very detailed and informative, and eases alot of fears. It's not a 'picture-book' if that's what your looking for. I highly recommend it. It's my fav pregnancy book. Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible Pregnancy Book, Way Too Medical Comment: I've read several other pregnancy books written by doctors. I could tolerate them, they had helpful tips, there was a human being on the other side writing the book. But this is soo bad, soo medical, that if you can read even ten pages of this book you deserve an award. What is in this book that will actually make you healthy? It's called healthy pregnancy, what exactly are the health tips gained here? I suppose if you completely buy into the medicalized way of birth, with nearly a 30% cesearan rate, 250,000 birth defects per year, of which about half are serious, 500,000 miscarriages and nearly 25,000 early infant deaths, then, please, get this book. You cannot get more filled with medical terminology and theories to confuse you and make you feel like you don't know anything, then is in this book. The text is extremely dry, the advice is not clear, and it is all about talking about problems without real solutions. It recommends the FLU shot while pregnant, which is completely stupid since it is loaded with mercury, (remember, no mercury during pregnancy??) duh, but still, it recommends that. The book makes it seem as if medical surgery and procedures is the only way to go. The Questions and Answers section may be it's only redeeming quality. Customer Rating: Summary: Great book - clinical information but approachable Comment: During my first pregnancy, I owned two books: "the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy" and "What to Expect When You're Expecting." Both are very good books, but over time I came to appreciate this one more. The explanations are thorough, and have extremely solid medical backgrounds. An attempt is made at providing good "touchy feeling" explanations, but truly, these academics aren't as good at that as the "what to Expect" crowd. Nonetheless, it lived at my side as I changed and learned about what was happening to me and my child. Customer Rating: Summary: Truly A Reliable and Resourceful Reference! Comment: This book covers vast topics, answering every question a pregnant woman has with great detail and yet not leaving you feel bogged down. Very easy to read and follow. I particularly like the tips and symptons one should look out for at every stage. You won't regret buying this book!
