Customer Rating: Summary: As Good as it gets Comment: Love this book. I never skim over Stephen King's words, as each one says something in the story. Being from Maine, I catch so many of his familiar references. I really enjoy reading his books, even one as long as Under the Dome (over 1,000 pages).
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Story Comment: I disagree with a lot of the reviews that didn't like this book. I thought it was one of Stephen King's best stories, as it slowly unfolded and really gave us a view of how different types of people react under stress. This was an ambitious book with a LOT of characters, but I thought King pulled it off well. As for the ending, which I will not spoil, those who thought it was lame are also mistaken. I think that perfectly related the situation back to what we sometimes do to lesser species.
The only thing I didn't like about the book was that King selected "Christian republicans" as most of the bad-guys. That IS lame. Keep your political views out. The book and characterizations, however, were very good.
Customer Rating: Summary: I love you Stephen King! Comment: Just finished UTD; hate to see it end. I appreciated Mr. King's fine talent of character development; really feel like I got to know all of the people in Chester's Mill. Definitely worth every minute I spent reading it. Loved it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Steve-o Is BACK! Comment: He lost me a long time ago; I would try new books and get nowhere, total lack of interest after 50 or so pages (a Stephen King book should grab you in the first 10). I couldn't resist the premise of this one and wanted to give him yet another chance. WOW, this is very much like the King books of yore. I was not surprised to find that he started this book back in the 70's--this would have put it back when he was writing the books I loved and that I found far superior to his latest offerings. The bulk of it may have been written in this century, but the core idea was born back when his books were the best available in his genre. This was so much fun to read, I couldn't wait to get back to it. I should add that I was glad I had the Kindle edition...I could hold it easily in one hand! Ok, maybe it was a little too graphic for me with the death and destruction in the beginning and near the end, but the rest is so good that I overlook that. Great book!
Customer Rating: Summary: King is done - it's over. Comment: Garbage - pure & simple. W-A-Y too long - way too much description of things that did not progress the story. Way too much killing unnecessarily.....animals, too. What a nasty little burg King has created.
I think that after writing such horrible stories for such a long time that King has irrevocably turned to the dark side and cannot write without the sewage he spews.
Too bad.
I haven't bought a King book in 10 years and I won't buy another.
