She wonders if she will end up like other TV personalities: her own stereotype. The Scarpetta Factor, the seventeenth in the series, finds the familiar cast of characters together again in New York. Marino is working for the NYPD; Benton Wesley uses his forensic psychological expertise at Kirby and Bellevue; and Lucy continues to dazzle with her expertise in forensic computer investigations as she works yet another case with NY prosecutor Jaime Berger.
Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Cornwell Is Back! Comment: I just finished reading Patricia Cornwell's new book, The Scarpetta Factor. Having read all of the previous Scarpetta books, I was anxious to read this one, though I also shared the disappointment others expressed over the last couple of novels. Happily, it was a very good read. There was much more emphasis on forensic details, and a lot less attention given to Lucy's sexual lifestyle. It was the kind of Scarpetta novel many of us had come to love To be sure, there is much reference to people and events in previous books. This might be a little confusing to newcomers, and I had to refresh my memory on a few occasions, but I don't think this will be an insurmountable obstacle to most, and I highly recommend it. Patricia Cornwell is definitely back! Customer Rating: Summary: MOST EXCELLENT! Comment: EXCELLENT CORNWELL. I FEEL SHE ENLARGED ON SOME OF HER ONGOING CHARACTERS, YET THEY ARE STILL THE FAMILIAR PEOPLE WE LOVE TO READ ABOUT. LUCY SEEMS TO BE SPIRALING TOWARD SOME SORT OF CATASTROPHE; EITHER IN HER PRIVATE LIFE OR PROFESSIONAL LIFE OR BOTH. MARINO IS ACTUALLY IMPROVING. HE HAS MORE INSIGHT INTO HIMSELF AND HIS ACTIONS AND CONSEQUENCES. KAY AND BENTON SEEM TO BE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER, AND A LOT OF HEALING SEEMS TO HAVE TAKE PLACE WITH THEIR RELATIONSHIP. THE ACCESSORY CHARACTERS ARE INTERESTING AND KEEP THE ACTION MOVING. I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS BOOK AND WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND IT. EVEN IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST CORNWELL BOOK, THE REFERENCES TO THE PAST MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU KNOW THE CHARACTER'S BACKGROUNDS ALREADY. FOR FORENSIC MYSTERY LOVERS THIS IS ONE GREAT BOOK. Comment: I wonder about some of the other reviews! I thought this book was excellent and got back to the caliber of the earlier, wonderful books by Patricia Cornwell. You have to have kept up with the series to be able to understand everything in this book though. I have read all of the Scarpetta books. This book provided some of the history of the characters Patricia Cornwell has been developing over the years. The ending did leave me to wonder about Lucy and Berger however. I imagine there will be another book that will go into that situation. Enjoy the book! Customer Rating: Summary: Not the Best. Comment: Not her best.
