Editorial Reviews:

Now an HBO original series, True Blood-the New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series continues.

Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, know little about vamps-and nothing about weres.

Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to reveal their existence to the ordinary world. At first all goes well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found near the bar where Sookie works-and she feels compelled to discover who, human or otherwise, did it.

But there's a far greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings-older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves-is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.

Summary: Lets hope book 10 is better.
Comment: Everyone who has noted the differences in the quality of this book as opposed to say "Dead to the World" (which is my favorite) I absolutely agree with.

This book seemed rushed and confused.

There were so many errors that I lost count, not only were facts changed (like Chow killed Hallow's representative that caused the spell on Erics memory not Clancy) but names and personalities were altered, I mean, seriously, why did Eric shed a tear for the Vampire Clancy? I don't understand that. And why didn't he come with Bill and Gramps to save Sookie? What's with that "You're killing me" crap? The REAL Eric would've been there or at least sent Bubba or something. And their great sex was so boring, what happened to "Sookie, look at me" I LOVED THAT!!! It was like this is Eric's thing. Such passion in the other books and lacking so bad in this new book. And why throw Quinn in there for two seconds? Why rush through the story of Sam's mom and step dad?

Why kill Crystal and Claudine especially when they were pregnant?! Claudine's lost is such a great one because she was pregnant with a full fairy baby and I really liked her sunny attitude. Sookie didn't even react appropriately for her character at the news and I understand that she had went through a lot (which details weren't explained) but I'm sure that Sookie would have had more to say about Claudine's passing then about Octavia moving out, I mean really? Claudine was her fairy god mother and cousin!

If this had been the first book that I read in the series, I would never read another but because I'm infatuated with Eric since the beginning of the series, well damn I'm stuck, and I'll read the new book in May but I'm hoping that Charlaine Harris will redeem herself in her 10th book. Give the characters back their personalities!

Summary: Story moves forward
Comment: The biggest disservice to Ms. Harris' books is the publisher's adverts constantly comparing the Sookie Stackhouse series to Hamilton's "Anita Blake" series. Other than similar subject matter - supernaturals are real and there are bad guys among us - Harris is a superior writer. her books are consistent and have developed plots. Her characters are well thought out and distinctive. She is also an author with more breadth to her skills as an author - she writes murder mysteries and not just those supernatural in flavor.

In this last book, we get some threads tied up - and no spoilers =). If this book doesnt have as much flash as previous ones - that's ok because it moves our story forward, but does not exactly "end" things. This book - as in all the Stackhouse series - are not overly long, but are good interesting reads. Her characters are interesting and you want to know more about them.

The one slight problem, is you must read the previous books to fully appreciate what the action means and why it is impacting the characters. Get the book, but read the previous ones - you'll enjoy it.

Summary: Very Very disappointed.......
Comment: I have to agree with the general "negative" reviews, I was very disappointed. I love the series and when I read the last book (8) I couldn't wait for book nine. My friend bought it and was still in the middle of another book (different author) so she let me borrow Dead and Gone to read first, I couldn't wait I was so excited. Then the big let down......... no solid continuation from the last book. The only consistent story line was the Were murder. Not to mention the errors and inconsistencies relating to the last books, wow.......very disappointing. After reading it I was like Ha??? I returned it to my friend and didn't shell out the money to complete my collection. Dead and Gone is a great title....... but the book.....it seems the SS story we all know and love is truly "DEAD and GONE" =-(

Summary: Fantastic! Lots of action!
Comment: I dont' get what all the negative reviews are about. I really enjoyed this book, as I have all the Sookie Stackhouse books. I only wish this one had been longer; I got to the end way too fast. I love that Sookie and Eric are finally getting somewhere; its about time. So I hope that continues. Otherwise I just couldn't agree with the other reviews about the excess of violence, etc. I found a couple of editorial issues in the text, but what book doesn't have a few of those. I found them easy to ignore and "fix" in my mind as I read. I think this is one of the best in series yet. Can't wait for the next one! Keep 'em coming Ms. Harris!

Summary: Dead and Gone
Comment: I thought this book was really good .I could not put it done as well as the other True Blood books . They will keep you guessing and always woundering if Sookie will be with Bill or Eric. I can not wait for book 10 to get here in May.
