The highly anticipated sequel to the #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling book!
Secrets have a way of getting out, especially when a diary is involved.
Whatever you do, don’t ask Greg Heffley how he spent his summer vacation, because he definitely doesn’t want to talk about it.
As Greg enters the new school year, he’s eager to put the past three months behind him . . . and one event in particular.
Unfortunately for Greg, his older brother, Rodrick, knows all about the incident Greg wants to keep under wraps. But secrets have a way of getting out . . . especially when a diary is involved.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules chronicles Greg’s attempts to navigate the hazards of middle school, impress the girls, steer clear of the school talent show, and most important, keep his secret safe.

Customer Rating: Summary: Still pretty funny Comment: I've no idea why the Japanese version seems to be the edition getting all the reviews, but I got the English version.
After getting the first book and reading it in a few hours, I immediately went to the store to get myself the second installment. I did enjoy this book, but I'm not giving it five stars as I did with the other simply because I found Greg to be a much less sympathetic character. His jokes in the previous books were harmless enough, but the jokes he plays on others in this book (especially getting his whole class to pretend that one of the kids didn't exist for days on end) were just plain cruel. Kinney always makes sure that Greg gets caught for his actions and faces consequences, but that still didn't change my view on Greg's personality. I do like that the "little guys" are often rewarded in this book. For example, Greg's best friend Rowley is constantly getting popularity and attention from girls without even trying to get it, and yet Greg portrays him as a complete dork. So in a way, Rowley gets rewarded for his innocence. Greg, on the other hand, is always failing at getting popular and the girls couldn't be less interested in him.
Another reason that I didn't give this book five stars is because I noticed that Jeff Kinney likes to "borrow" jokes and skits from recognizable television shows and comedy standup routines. He did this a lot in the first book. It rubbed me the wrong way, but I figured that maybe Kinney had done it without realizing it, and that maybe he'd come up with these jokes not even knowing that there was already a practically identical one out there. In this second book, I only spotted one other incident like this, but it annoyed me enough to look at Kinney more unfavorably than I had before. The section I'm talking about is one part in the book where Greg and his brother are visiting their grandfather and he prepares them a really nasty dish that they pretend to like. Greg struggles to eat it all, but when he's done, his grandpa just piles more onto the plate. What does he do? He shoves it down his pants. This is the exact same thing that happened in a That's So Raven episode called "Spa Day Afternoon", just replace the grandfather with a dad, and two teenagers (who are visiting their friend's dad) shoving the food into a younger kid's pants instead of their own. There are actually even more similarities within this scene than I'm pointing out, but if one looks up the episode on Youtube after reading this book, it's clear to see what I'm talking about. I was willing to forgive Kinney during the first book and consider all the similarities to other works as coincidence, but this one just really got on my nerves and struck me as an obvious copy. I haven't read the other two books after this one, but I hope they're not all full with other people's jokes as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: AWESOME BOOK Comment: Awesome book - my son is almost finished with it and can't wait for the movie to come out. THANKS!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny! Comment: I read the Diary of a Whimpy Kid series because my 10-year old niece told me how funny she found them. She's not big on reading, so I figured they had to be entertaining to hold her attention. I found the first two books to be pretty cute, but the 3rd and 4th were probably among some of the funniest stuff I've read in a long time. In fact, I found myself laughing out loud throughout most of those two books. No, they don't have much "social redeeming value" (as one Amazon reviewer noted), but they sure are entertaining. This is just fun reading with good 'ol fashioned, goofy humor that most of us can related to.
Customer Rating: Summary: A 4th Grade Student Review Comment: In this book, Greg's brother Rodrick, takes charge. I liked it, but it didn't seem as funny as the 1st, 3rd and 4th book. That's why I only gave it 2 stars. I really would have liked it to be funnier. It would have been a 4 or 5 star book instead of a 2 star book. I loved the part when his grandma said the only thing she got from Greg was a sign that said "I hate you grandma", but that was the only part I liked. I don't think it was worth reading. Take my advice, read all the other books before this one. Also, try to luagh as much as you can![I sure didn't!]~APRIL MEADOWBROOK
Gerg Heffley is at it again this time better. Greg jions the swim team. But Greg is not that good at swimming. When he gets back to school everyone screams and runs away Greg has the cheese touch. Greg and his best friend try to talk in a secret languge it dosen't work and he gets sent home from a sleepover and you should read this book it is awesome. It made my laugh out loud. ~ mad dad
Customer Rating: Summary: good kid book Comment: My 7 year old loves the Wimpy Kid books. I brought all of the series this christmas. My son loves to read and Wimpy Kid will hold his interest for hours, until I have to tell him to put the book down and go to bed. Great book. Children in his class tries to trade books with him, but you can not brive him for the Wimpy Kid. If your children love to read this is a great book to buy.
