Customer Rating:      Summary: better than I expected Comment: I ordered a whole bunch of subscriptions and I didn't have high expectations of this one but in fact I enjoy it quite a bit. Many advertisements of course, but if you are looking for the latest styles, these are actually useful for the purpose.
Customer Rating:      Summary: Confused Comment: I have subscribed to GQ on & off for some time. I have just renewed my subscription and decided to write a review. Before doing so, as I usually do, I read the most helpful favorable and critical reviews and was conflicted when I read them because I agreed with them both. GQ has evolved over the years and I believe that if you are expecting a stuffy highbrow publication you may need to look elsewhere. That or maybe I have evolved over the years, anyway I appreciate the articles, fashion, and stuff to drool over that I will never get. I don't think it has devolved to the levels of debauchery that H&M has. That being said I do think there is some room for improvement. Anyway at the subscription price you cant beat it.
Customer Rating:      Summary: Way too many ads! Comment: I have noticed a trend in the latest magazines to let advertisement take over the entire magazine. IN the case of GQ, it has gone above and beyond. ON the edition shown for the MJ edition, I opened it and it was very thick magazine. I ordered 2 years since I thought it was a good deal. What i got was 80% ads and 20% reading material. THe reading material is poorly written, it seems the writer just graduated from high school. He had alot of grammar and syntax issues. THe material itself is great.. its pretty hip and stays within mainstream. The material itself stays with the mainstream culture and covers the latest stories and news.
But the ads are so annoying, they are bigger than the reading material so if you try to flip the pages, you are likely to flip to another ad. Alot of it is about sex... which is fine... but its crudely written and doesnt really offer much insight. Its like two college students writing their sex life as if its their term paper due tomorrow morning.
Then, the reading material is cutoff and then goes to another page... so for ex, if ur at page 90, it would want you to flip to page 137 to continue, and the rest of the pages are just random stories and coverage all into one. So it would be like 4 page of one topic and then asks u to flip to another page.... so another story can come in and more ads.
I wont recommend a 2 year subscription.... the price is good, but I think im paying for ads. Its a good read at the news stand for what its worth. If you want some real insights, I recommend going online. THe ads in the magazine does show some new products...
The upside is they do tell you how to dress, latest trends and some coverage. However... ads really kill this magazine.
Customer Rating:      Summary: Save the trees Comment: I am 48 and I remember when I was in my 20s occasionally picking up this magazine and enjoying looking at the clothes I could never afford. Now I got a good deal on a subscription thru Amazon and gave it another try. Whatever interest it held for me 30 years ago is long gone. I get the magazines each month and flip thru them within 10 minutes.
GQ always had clothes that were only affordable to the ultra wealthy and only dreams for us mere mortals. A weird thing has happened though. In the past even if expensive they showed diferrent varying styles of clothes that would cater to all age ranges and economic classes. Now I look at the clothes and don't mind the prices for I don't even like what I see. I do know a little bit about fashion and fall in the middle class range. These clothes are things I would never wear even if I could afford them and most are of a style I never see in any settings I may enter in my life travels. To me these are wasted pages of attractive models wearing fashion that no ilk of man would wear.
Also in the past I would always find a couple of articles that peaked my interest in each issue but not anymore. Reviews are not really valid for they are written catering to the supposed magazines audience and not being honest. If lucky there will be an interesting main article, an interview with the cover male. In my last issue it was Channing Tatum. I learned some about him but have honestly learned more elsewhere. The interesting thing was I really liked the clothes he was wearing in his pictures. They dressed him in clothes I could imagine average men wearing.
So bottiom line, if this magazine caters to your demographic then you will love it and I apologize for trashing it a little. But it is definitely about the clothes. If the styles do not appeal to you then you will find very little else in the magazine to make it a worthwhile read. Mostly filler here.
Customer Rating:      Summary: 5 stars for delivery, 4 for the magazine Comment: Initial delivery was really quick. Amazon said something like 6-8 weeks for the first issue, but I received it in 2-3. I definitely recommend ordering this magazine through Amazon.
The magazine itself is kind of disappointing. A lot of ads, not much content. But then again, it is really cheap. Get it after sampling a couple issues at a library or store to make sure you know what you're getting.
