Customer Rating: Summary: EQMM is a Gem! Comment: I've been reading EQMM for 30+ years and it provides consistently extraordinary reading enjoyment. Many readers do not appreciate the brilliance of the short story form; it's extremely difficult to create a great story populated with multiple identifiable characters, each of whom the reader feels he or she knows and understands. What is truly amazing to me is that the writer accomplishes all of this in a medium of 15 to 20 pages. That takes some serious skill. When I'm waiting for my magazine eah month,I am like a kid waiting for Xmas morning. No matter how much I have had to cut my personal spending, I will always find a way to renew my annual subscription. It is worth every penny!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great gift subscription Comment: The magazine was a Christmas gift to my son-in-law
--suggested by him. He has loved EQ since he was a child. He grew up reading his mother's subscription.
I had ordered it for him several years ago--but, dropped it for 2yrs. He was VERY PLEASED to start receiving it again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ellery Queen rocks Comment: I have been reading EQMM for long decades, and every time I see that little magazine in the mailbox I actually get excited--sort of like I used to do when I was a kid and got stuff mailed directly to me.
What I find is that there's nothing "pulpy" about EQMM. It's the highest quality, story-wise and article-wise. The writers (and I hope to be one of them myself one day) are among the best anywhere on earth. I will always look forward to EQMM in my mailbox.
Customer Rating: Summary: The last of a breed Comment: EQMM is about the last chance for solid ,well written crime fiction in a magazine form around these days. As has been noted, not all of the stories in here will be instant classics... but they are all solid short story form fiction. I hope that EQMM will be around for many, many years to come showcasing old pros and breakout rookies alike. You really can't go wrong with this timeless gem!
Customer Rating: Summary: A true classic Comment: I've been reading EQMM since I was a child and have always enjoyed it. I particularly like finding new mystery writers in it. Just this month, C J Harper has a very good tale in the tradition of Rex Stout and Phillip Marlowe.
