Customer Rating: Summary: Got two, fits standard garage, park 2003 Accord underneath Comment: Overall a good idea. I just installed two of these in about 30 minutes. My garage is nothing to brag about, your standard speck house 2 car garage (which means 2 barely fit). I've got 2 adult mountain bikes hanging and I've got 2 inches to spare between them and the roof of my 2003 Honda Accord beneath.
The only issue I have is that the screws aren't long enough. The brackets, when hanging parallel with joists, have a quarter inch gap between the metal and the ceiling, add the 1/2 inch drywall and you're only getting a quarter of the screw into the joist. Not very secure. I'd recommend getting some longer wood screws.
Customer Rating: Summary: My Wife Says 5 Stars ***** Comment: I keep lots of bikes on the ceiling hanging from simple hooks, but I decided to try one of these to see if my wife could get her bike off the ceiling all by herself. It only took a few minutes to install, everything worked as described, and she successfully hoisted and lowered her bike without the assistance of a man. She's happy, I'm happy, everything is good. I've been ordered to buy a second one for her new mountain bike.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Product, Works Well, Installation Time Consuming Comment: I have 2 of these bike lifts, and they actually work pretty well after you get them up.
As others have noted, the ropes look like they're fraying. We haven't replaced ours yet, but I expect to do that in the future. We also needed to buy some alternate/additional screws for mounting. (These two issues are the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.)
They need to be mounted into wood, which may be a bit difficult if the ceiling joists run in the wrong direction for you (like mine did). You can't just put them anywhere unless you have a -really- high ceiling - they'll hang down about a 12-18 inches PLUS the height of the bike. Given that, our garage isn't high enough to mount them just anywhere, so we had to put ours parallel to a wall. This required me to add support boards on the ceiling with some heavy duty lag bolts. This was more work than hanging the Racors themselves.
However, after you get them up, they work just fine. Raising and lowering the bikes is reasonably easy, and they stay solidly in place without fear of them falling.
One final note - the hooks are probably going to go under the seat and under the handlebars. Make sure you don't have any brake cables or other things in those areas that would prevent you from using the hooks.
Customer Rating: Summary: Racor PBH-1R Comment: The Racor PBH-1R is an economical, well-made bike lift. Our need was to hoist a cargo container and it can sufficiently handle the 30lb+ of current weight. It was easy to install. The medicore materials used (lightweight plastic, etc) may prove to sketchy for constant up and down usage but just a guess since we have had no issues- the price paid made it a good value.
Customer Rating: Summary: Relatively easy to install and works great Comment: I've had the hooks up for 6 months now and we really like them.
They were easy to install on the garage rafters. It only took a few minutes to put all 3 up.
Using them for the bikes is extremely easy as well. They are a great way to make room for a car in the garage.
