THIS OLD HOUSE focuses on appreciation of craftsmanship and fine design, with the idea that the best value is derived from informed planning and the usage of premium materials and workmanship. Detailed information and photography provide an understanding of the equipment, materials and techniques needed to renovate a home, as well as how to communicate more effectively with architects, contractors, craftsmen, and designers.

Customer Rating: Summary: Who doesn't love home repair- as a gift for someone else. Comment: I purchased this for a friend of mine who purchased her first home. It's a real fixer-upper so I thought I'd give the gift of expertise. The first issue is scheduled to arrive right before Christmas and she's been talking about how much she loves This Old House Magazine. I think I hit the nail on the head (pun intended) with this gift.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great magazine! Comment: I bought this for my husband and I ended up enjoying it just as much as he did. It has LOTS of great ideas for the home!
Customer Rating: Summary: OK but not as good as Handyman Magazine Comment: Bought this due to it being on sale, but have also read The Family Handyman Magazine. Handyman is much more useful for the average homeowner and provides much more information including automotive. The tips and ideas are much more realistic and practical. I felt that "This Old House" has more challenging projects that unless you have the expensive tools that fill your garage, you will probably not put 90% of what they publish to actual use.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Magazine Comment: Love this magazine but hate paying the full price for it. Found it on sale here and had to subscribe again. Has a lot of good information on restoring older homes.
Customer Rating: Summary: Design Inspiration - Not DIY Comment: Let me start off by saying this isn't a DIY magazine in the traditional sense. There is very little step by step information and more "1800s Colonial Kitchen Remodel". It is a good source of design inspiration for home renovation as they cover lots of exterior, kitchen, great room and bathroom remodels with notes about why attention to period details is important. TOH covers several design options / material choices when covering things like wainscoting or tile and how to use them in your home.
I give it a 3 star rating because the writing isn't all that captivating ...but the photos are nice.
