Customer Rating: Summary: A new favorite Comment: My review is based on my own skin type.
I do not have dry skin. I have dehydrated/thirsty OILY skin. I'm EXTREMELY acne prone due to high sebum production. Because of that, it is very very difficult for me to find a moisturizer. The only one other than hope in a jar that I've enjoyed (which I still do, VERY MUCH) is Clinique Moisture Surge - Unfortunately it's a bit too pricy for me.
With that said, what I first noticed about the product:
The odor: It has true lavender oil in it, and you can tell. It's not strong, and though some people find it unpleasant, I certainly do not.
The consistency: I was hoping for a gel type but it's not. It's more of a cream. However, it's very very light.
Application: A little goes a long way. Though it's a cream, it spread on very smoothly.
The first impression: "Oh great, another cream that's going to just turn me into an oil slick within 15 minutes."
The final impression: "WOW!!"
So it took about 5-10 minutes for it to fully soak in, but it actually did (which is a surprise). My skin did not suck it up as quickly as the moisture surge, but unlike the Clinique Moisture Surge, it seems to be just the right combination of moisture addition, and moisture retention (something I feel the Moisture Surge Lacks).
After the product was fully absorbed, my skin looked fresh and dewy (no, it's not a miracle cream, it just gave my skin the non-dehydrated look).
Hours later, no oil slick... in fact I do believe that rather than increasing sebum it actually decreased it (probably due to the actual hydration it recieved).
Days later, my skin actually looks like it's improving.
I will definitely be purchasing this product again, and again. Which is honestly the first time, after years of searching, that I have been able to say this for any moisturizer other than Clinique Moisture Surge.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great product Comment: This is a great product. I think the smell is great. Makes my skin feel soft. Will continue to keep buying!
Customer Rating: Summary: Rated best of Sephora for good reason Comment: It seems that everyone either loves or hates this moisturizer. Personally, I love it. I've been using the product for over 6 months now and I can't imagine going back to my old moisturizer or even trying something new. To be fair, I've never had especially problematic skin, but when I started using this product, I began receiving a lot of compliments on my skin. I feel like it moisturizes really well and when I wake up the next morning my skin still feels really soft and moisturized. I've seen people complain about the scent of this moisturizer - I had never really thought of it before I heard their complaints. I'd probably agree that it's not the best-scented moisturizer, but I wouldn't say it was bad either. Personally I'm more concerned with it's moisturizing capability than it's scent. You can often find sample or trial size containers of this product at Sephora if you're interested in trying it out without making a big investment in the product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product Comment: I have sensitive, acne prone skin and have been searching for a moisturizer that doesn't make me break out, turn red (due to skin irritation), or leave my face looking perpetually greasy. I finally came across Philosophy's Hope in a Jar moisturizer and it's amazing. The product makes my pores look smaller, evens out my skin tone, and makes my face look healthy rather than greasy. The lactic acid in the product helps clear up scarring and removes dead, superficial layers of skin to reveal healthy skin and prevent pore-clogging and breakouts. The product is expensive, but a very very small bit of the moisturizer goes a long way.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not for Sensitive Skins-- Perfume is Unnecessary Comment: Not for Sensitive Skins-- Perfume is Unnecessary
Why would a company put such a heavy perfume in a facial moisturizer? It seems that the majority of the negative reviews are because of the odor.
I usually use Clinique, or Bare Minerals which is completely fragrance-free. Even then, I sometimes get reactions (usually to chemical sunscreens that are in a lot of day creams).
This product is not a good choice for women who have sensitive skin. It didn't make me break out, because it actually burned and I had to take it off immediately. This product contains Diazolidinyl Urea which is irritating to a lot of people (including me).
Conclusion: Lots of good reviews, so I guess it's worth a try, but skip it if you don't like perfumed moisturizers.
