Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: The magazine equivalent of a hyperactive teenager Comment: While I listen to many of the bands AP covers, actually trying to read this magazine is exhausting. Their articles are short, never very informative, and usually consist of bands talking about other bands (Our influences are...). Also, they review what seems like hundreds of albums per issue, so each one only gets two sentences of space. Had a subscription for two years, but just can't force myself to slog through this magazine anymore. Customer Rating: Summary: Too much. Comment: I subscribed to AP for like 3 years, and finally didn't renew when I had a stack of magazines that I hadn't even read. Although I really respect the genre they cover, the format is just too much. I feel like they must mention 300 bands in each magazine, usually not more than a line of info about them. I think I would really rather they did really great in-depth stories about, say, 3-5 bands, and really focused on teaching their readers in a way they will retain the info. Also, I would be impressed if they included some articles about issues that matter to their readers like community involvement, the music industry from a business stand point, politics, etc. Customer Rating: Summary: bleh Comment: I agree with the first comment. plus there is nothing wrong with going mainstream as long as you dont sell-out Customer Rating: Summary: eee-mo Comment: This magazine is entirely geared toward the emo population. And not the the trend setting type (if there is such a thing), but the look-at-me-I'm-really-deep-and-dark-and-like-to-whine-and-don't-care-what-people-think-about-me-so-I-buy-my-clothes-at-HotTopic-and-am-most-likely-sixteen-or-younger-straight-up emo. Customer Rating: Summary: Good for growing up with. Comment: When I was a teenager and in my early twenties, the monthly AP was a prized gift in my mailbox. Since I've hit my 30's it has lost touch with me and I feel my generation. It does focus on new and upcoming bands and goes a little heavy on the whole "style" thing. Nothing really to interesting unless your a teenager or in your 20's and hanging onto something. The one and only reason I'm giving it four stars is the fact that the reviews are honest and a gazillion times better than Rolling Stone or Spin. Though given that Spin and Paste are now my music magazines of choice. I will no longer purchase an AP just read the reviews while I'm at the newsstand.
