Customer Rating: Summary: Scanner is completely unreliable Comment: This was a big disappointment to us. We've always insisted on HP printers in my company, and thought that their scanners would match the printers quality, but that hasn't been the case for us. This scanner is used on a daily basis for numerous small multipage jobs. It randomly stops communicating with the computer it is connected to, requiring IT support to visit on an almost daily basis. It is far too unreliable for us to continue using it. We are in the process of replacing it with another brand.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Scanner Comment: I'm sure there are better scanners out there but so far this is the best that I have delt with. I use this scanner everyday at work. It scans photos, slides, and text. I love it. It is a bit cumbersome because of the size but the quality makes up for that. I highly recommend this scanner.
Customer Rating: Summary: You want peanut butter with all that jam? Comment: I mean jelly. Bought this to turn the archive our ugly metal filing cabinet and e-file all these bank statements and bills. Using XP. Easy to set up. I use the document feeder the most. I think I spend more time removing paper jams than actually scanning. I'm about to throw this out the window! Whether duplexing or not, it still jams! And it's a pain in the but to remove the jam. Don't bother with this thing. I give it 2 star because it was easy to set up and the software is easy to understand.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't bother Comment: My work got me one of these for my office. It sucks. It's sensors are either too smart or too dumb for their own good. It sometimes wants to break a scanned picture, in picture scan mode, into multiple cropped panels: like removing the blue sky from the top of a landscape picture. Then in scan to file mode it is too dumb and the scanned image is the entire extent of the scan bed, including the inside of the scan bed that is not covered by document. So then cropping is required. And its little sheet feed scanner, no way. It jams and sticks and leaves lines on the scanned document. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it, but it's just another example of a crappy product that was pushed through to production.
Customer Rating: Summary: An unreliable scanner that I would not recommend at this price Comment: HP ScanJet 5590 Digital FlatBed Scanner
Quality-wise, this scanner is fine for my needs; I am scanning old photos for archiving and the software that comes with it is easy-to-use and I was impressed with how easy it was to fix up photos, albeit I was looking for something quick.
That being said, I would not recommend this scanner for the following reasons:
1) It locks up in the middle of scanning, so you have to periodically save your images. This seems random and on two occasions I've had to re-scan a number of photos. The scanner just gets stuck and stops responding until I do a cold re-start, which means pulling the plug.
2) The ADF is useless. I couldn't get it to take anything in without jamming, if it even took the paper in. It's the reason I got the scanner and a big reason why I am returning it..
3) The price is ridiculous for this thing; it's bulky and the ADF is useless. I don't really see how it's any better than a cheaper scanner, as the the price is inflated by the useless ADF scanner.
Don't waste your money with this piece of garbage; I'm taking it back.
