Customer Rating: Summary: The Big Picture of Book Collecting Comment: I have been collecting books off and on for over 20 years. Before I started reading Fine Books & Collections in 2004, however; I was quite ignorant to book collecting outside my specific area of interest. Over the years I have become much more sophisticated and knowledgeable about collecting thanks to FB&C.
Each issue covers a broad spectrum of subjects ranging from the basics of collecting to explanations of particular areas of specialty. They have regular columns on collector and dealer profiles, maps, fine press, auction reports, and so on. It is the only magazine that I read cover to cover and enjoy every minute of it. Even the advertisements are interesting because it helps me to find additional resources and connections. I also like that they cover the bigger industry issues and have regular articles by and interviews with industry insiders. Reading FB&C has given me the insights and confidence to take my collecting to the next level.
Beyond being a great publication, the folks at FB&C are also great. I have asked them several questions over the years and they always responded with advice or directed me to addition resources that have been helpful.
The only thing that I do not like about the magazine is that I have to wait two months between issues since it is a semi-monthly magazine. Like everything good in life, however; it is well worth the wait and I strongly recommend FB&C to anyone remotely interested in any type of book collecting. I also recommend that you buy the back issues and take them with you on vacation. It will be your best, most relaxing vacation ever.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just what I have been looking for! Comment: I started collecting books by accident (having grown up in a very small town). Books gave me my first look at the broader world. I had quite a collection going without knowing what I was doing. I learned a bit about collecting without the aid of Fine Books and Collections. If I had it years ago it would have me from some rather expensive mistakes. I just received my first year of magazines which I purchased with my subscription. For several days I have reading every word of the very interesting info contained in the issues. Now I can see that I will have to order all back issues and keep them handy. They are an education unto themselves. You couldn't do better as a book lover or collector than a subscription to this great magazine.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fine magazine too Comment: Intelligently written, beautifully illustrated and designed, this magazine is a must-read for beginning book collectors and veterans. It should be of interest also to non-collectors or accidental collectors who just happen to love books. Great features on authors and genres will interest many; succinct departments will help novice and experienced bibliophiles.
