Editorial Reviews:

The new, larger Rat Zapper Ultra offers you more kills and longer stand-by times. Perfect for larger rats (and mice too!), ongoing rodent infestations and commercial applications. Larger chamber than the Rat Zapper Classic. Bait with ordinary pet food. Mice and rats enter the chamber and are dispatched with a quick but powerful jolt of electricity. If they'll fit in the chamber, Rat Zapper will dispatch them! No blood, no gore, no mess, and no poisons to endanger your pets or the environment. Flashing kill light tells you when you have a catch; simply tip the Rat Zapper and let the dead rodent slide into the trash can. Dimensions: approximately 4" x 4-3/4" X 11-1/2". Approximately 30 kills with one set of 4 alkaline "D" Cell batteries. Easy to use, and reusable. Not an ultrasonic device. Optional remote monitoring with the Rat Zapper Rat Tale. Can be combined with other units as part of the Rat Zapper Battle Station.

Summary: Unbelievably effective mouse trap!
Comment: I have been chasing mice for 40 years. In my warehouses and home garage. I have found the latest generation of rodent to be too tricky for my former favorite, the glue trap. I received my three Rat Zapper Ultras on Saturday and by Sunday evening I had caught 12 mice. It is so easy to use. First you add batteries, toss in a piece of dry dog food, that is supplied by the way, turn it on and walk away. When a poor little mouse has been zapped, actually electrocuted, quick and easy, you slide it into the trash and reset the trap. No more squealing little fellas caught in the glue. Dead and gone. This review is not a joke. It is the honest truth from an old hayseed in Nebraska.

Summary: Mice = 0, Rat Zapper Ultra = 2
Comment: Embarrassed to say it but somehow we ended up with field mice in the house. I thought there were two. Traditional spring-traps didn't even get tripped. After receiving a quote for over $700 from a national extermination company, I decided to search the Internet for alternatives. Since I didn't know which unit would work better, I ordered both the Agri Zap RZ2K001 Rat Zapper Classic and the Agri Zap RZU001 Rat Zapper Ultra, along with one Rat Zapper Rat Tail.

We recieved the units late in the day and I only had AA batteries for the Classic on hand so we set it up in an area I had seen the mice. A mouse was zapped withing 4 hours so I reloaded the Classic and we went to bed. Had another mouse from the same area the very next morning. Cool. Re-loaded the unit and went to the store to buy some D-cells for the Ultra. Once the Ultra was readied I place it, along with the Rat Tail, in another room where we had heard critter movement. Within another 4 hours we had zapped another 3 mice between the two units. Wow. A total of 5 mice easily within 24 hours!

Can't say how pleased I am with this purchase. The units are now set in our motor home while it is in storage where we have had previous mice incursions.

The Classic seems to work as well as the Ultra, just won't work as long on one set of batteries. If you will be doing battle with a lot of mice, or larger rats, I'd suggest the Ultra.

Summary: Does Squirrels too!
Comment: Although they don't specifically advertise it, this trap does a wonderful job of offing squirrels too. I've had squirrel problems for over a year now, but the problem is now diminishing and will soon be all resolved thanks to this product. So far, mine has zapped 4 squirrels in the attic with just one set of batteries. It is really easy to set & you just check on it periodically and if the red light is flashing, you just pick it up, dump the dead critter into the trash can, re-bait with a nice dab of peanut butter on a cracker and reset. Easy. You never even have to look at the critter inside.

At first, I was hesitant to get one because of the relatively high price, but after the repeated epic failures of mechanical traps and $1,000+ in damage from squirrels, I took the plunge and it's been worth its weight in gold. Highly recommended.

Summary: Rat Zapper Ultra
Comment: This purchase was the second Rat Zapper Ultra's I bought in the last three months, and they both work very well. They have zapped dozen of mice and even a large squirrel. I used to have two of the earlier version of the Rat Zapper which served me well, but the Ultra seems a much improved version. The older version caught many mice and even a few large rats, but unfortunately the earlier version would frequently get false alarms when the batteries were not fresh and near full voltage capacity. I bought alkaline AA cells in bulk as the earlier version went through them fairly fast--Even though the batteries would only get false alarms they would still test good and be usable in many other devices. As the earlier versions aged, they seemed to get false alarms more frequently and not work as well.

The Ultra uses D cells which last much longer than the AA cells used in the earlier version. I have caught nearly 20 mice on a single set of 4 D cells. When I get two false alarms in a row, I change the batteries. Like the earlier Rat Zapper version, the old batteries still test good so I use them for less demanding devices. The Ultra also has a green light feature when you turn on the device to indicate the batteries are OK which I like.

The mice in my area seem smart, and both spring and glue traps are very unreliable to catch them. I have seen mice simply jump over spring traps and they will frequently just pull away from glue traps. Before getting the first Ultra, my wife saw a mouse and I set 5 spring traps in the area-After five days of not catching it, I bought the Ultra and when it arrived, it got the mouse in a single day. The Ultra is expensive compared to spring and glue traps but is well worth the cost to me; it works well, is reusable and one simply dumps the dead rodent out of the device without getting close to it at all. The mice in my area like to get into cars and eat wires or establish nests in the heater compartment, both I sometimes fix(frequently not easily) or pay $200+ a pop to have a mechanic do. Eliminating one such mechanic bill easily pays for the Ultras.

Summary: Did NOT work - returned for refund
Comment: This product was defective. It did not work at all. Zero. It was defective and I returned it for a refund. Maybe some people get lucky and receive one that actually works. Try plain old Victor snap traps instead, they worked and only cost $2 at home depot.
