Customer Rating: Summary: ... hows that all fit? Comment: My parents bought this collection for me a little while back and I really enjoy it. I haven't had the logo problem that others have described in the past, and it's a lot easier to bring with me than the actual comic books. This is a good idea for people heavily interested in the series who have no intention of collecting the actual comics, and of course for those comic collectors who don't want to risk damaging the comics by reading them. It is exactly as described, a lot of x-men. The only things I think that might have made it better is if they included a CD version of the X-men Ultimate GuideX-Men: The Ultimate Guide (Ultimate Guides), a demo of a game or movie *shrugs*. Honestly it just takes a lot for me to give it a 5- but it's certainly worth owning if you're a fan of X-men- so long as it isn't over $50. Keep in mind I've seen this drop to $30 if you want to hold out and see if it might get cheaper.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great product at half price Comment: I'm very pleased with this dvd-rom. Reading the pdfs on the computer screen is fairly easy. Acrobat has a full screen mode so that's the easiest way to view it. Each two page spread takes up the full screen and a single touch of the keypad turns the page, however the font is a little small to read in that mode. I prefer to zoom in larger and move the pdf around as I read which requires more work but isn't much trouble.
I've also printed out a bunch of them so far, and for the most part they look great. There is a "marvel" watermark on pages when you print them out (does not appear on the screen). Depending on the illustration, some pages aren't noticeable at all and others are more noticeable. So far it hasn't been an issue and printing them out has been a pleasurable way to read them. Obviously it would look even better if they weren't there but I wouldn't let that discourage you from buying.
I waited for Amazon to discount this product and bought it for $27. I wouldn't pay $50 for it. At 25-30 I think it's a good value. Spiderman gets the same review.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Despite the Bulk of Content Comment: This dvd is a textbook example of a great idea that fails in specific implementation. As others have mentioned, the interface is very simple and basic, and the scans are 'okay' at best. The sheer quantity of comic you get for your money makes it a worthwhile buy if you need to catch up on years of comics and aren't sure where to start, admittedly. But the biggest irritation with this dvd is, to me, the simply awful packaging. Almost like potato chips, they fool you with this great big pretty box that is mostly air on the inside. Inside you will only find a single dvd in a PAPER SLIP. That's right, they couldn't even spring for a hard plastic case. For fifty dollars! I've bought games for a fifth of the price that at least had decent cases to go with them. There's no other hard bonus material, either. No posters or manuals or anything like that. Just the dvd in a paper slip, held up by a cardboard frame so it doesn't flop around in the oversized box. This is a very useful product that fills a needed niche, but the overall presentation makes it feel like a cheap cash-scrapping endeavor rather than something the producing company took pride in creating. Everything about it screams CHEAP... except for the price! Buy it used or wait till the official price goes down, because at fifty dollars you'll be kicking yourself for purchasing this. This is a twenty dollar product at most.
Customer Rating: Summary: nice Comment: great product, seems to me that it is missing a few comics. could be my imagination i suppose
Customer Rating: Summary: So Happy to Have This! Comment: I've actually owned this disk for a few years, but totally forgot to write a review for it. And it's one of the favorite things I own!
Like most reviewers, I've been a fan for years. I used to have quite an extensive collection of the Uncanny X-Men comics (including many very early issues) but sadly had to sell it all. It takes away so much of that regret to be able to have these stories back, especially those pricey issues I was never able to own in paper and read.
Some of the scans show the flaws of the earlier, more rare comics themselves, including the occasional slight coffee ring or crease on the page. To me, that makes it all the more authentic and sort of adds to the enjoyment that can be derived from reading these. As the issues become more current, the colors become more vibrant, just like with the real comics. Adobe needs some tweaking now and then to get the pages to fit right for each monitor, but that's Adobe for ya'. Really, it's not a big deal in light of what you're getting.
I do hope someday they might reissue this as a comprehensive disk of everything X-Men (or a series of disks) with cross-over issues that might have left plot holes, such as is the case, I've read, with the Ultimate X-Men disk. For now, this is wonderful! I'm usually pretty reserved about giving anything 5 stars, so obviously I highly recommend this. :)
