Editorial Reviews:

Hitachi's superior design and engineering make this a top-of-the-list choice for a framing nailer, just as hardworking as the NR83 model that preceded it, but with a few major improvements.

We like the way Hitachi's integrated both types of trigger, so there's no need to replace anything – just flip the lever on the tool down for bump or up for sequential firing. Also tool-free is the depth-of-fire adjustment: Just turn a small knob to set your depth. It's even easier than adjusting the air pressure.

This nailer has a 21-degree angled magazine and fires nails from 2 inches to 3-1/2 inches, a wider range than the old NR83 handled. Loading is much faster and easier on this gun, too, because Hitachi's redesign repositioned the loading mechanism at the rear of the magazine. A maximum of 64 plastic-strip collated full round head nails will fit in the magazine, but reloading takes a few seconds, so there's no downside to that. This is one of the most jam-free guns we've used; it just fires and fires. Should you find a way to jam it, the procedure to clear the jam is super fast and couldn't be easier.

The balance of this tool is incredible; at a relatively light 7-1/2 pounds, you'd expect to feel a little strain after using this gun for a few hours, but the ergonomics are fantastic. Hats off to Hitachi on this redesign. And of course, you'll notice immediately the difference in appearance between this gun and its predecessor. It's sporting Hitachi's hot new look, with brighter colors and a flame-like graphic, better suited, we think, to the new personality of this fantastic nailer.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Summary: Unbelievable performance
Comment: I bought this nailer from a local retail store at a clearance sale price. The job was to frame and finish a 1600 square feet basement. In the last 6 months, I have fired over 7000 nails with this gun and not a single mis-fire or jam or any problem at all ! The operation is as smooth as I can expect. It is very good to hold and feels good in the hand. This is my first nailer and I wouldn't buy anything else if I needed another one. My professional contractors in fact used this gun to help me frame and gave many complements. Excellent product.

Summary: Nailers...
Comment: This is a replacement nail gun for me, and seems to work nicely.
If you are thinking of using clipped head nails be aware that building codes in many areas do not allow them.
And if you are thinking of using a framing nail gun for hangers, be aware that most counties require hardened nails, which require a different specialized nailer. I know first hand that correcting mistakes is much harder than doing it right the first time.
I am dissapointed that Hitachi would not spend $1.00 more and include an air adapter, good glasses, and a little oil to nake the tool usable out of the box like most tools. Would be nicer still, for a few dolllars more if they included a sky hook and a case. I think it only makes advertising sense to see their name on empty cases and on glasses.
I must have got a great deal as I only had to pay $202.00 on Amazon.
The only thing I am not used to with this nailer is all the debris that comes out of the nose area and the sharp edges on the nail feeder.

Summary: Awesome gun
Comment: I have used many different framing guns over the years and Hitachi leads the way hands down. My NR83A is still sinking nails at 20 years old. The NR90AE is a great step up, especially with the trigger switch. You don't get double nailing on those precarious nailing spots. Faster loading and better nail support in cold weather when collated nails break apart due to temp. Most of all, this gun sinks a nail every time as long as the compressor can keep up.

Summary: So far so good
Comment: I'd give it a five, but I haven't had it long enough for it to prove its reliability. I was also a little miffed that I had to go find a air nipple for it before I could use it (it uses a bigger size - 3/8"?). If I don't get solidly behind the gun and the wood's hard (e.g., LVL), the nails sometimes don't sink completely. Otherwise, no jamming to complain about and the nails have been easy to find at Lowe's.

Summary: Hitachi NR90AE Nailer
Comment: Great nailer. Would be better with a case.

Unfortunately Amazon suggests and sells the wrong hanger for this nailer.

The 60605X hanger (blue package) is the correct hanger for this nailer.
