100% hands-free, foot-free operated, lidded waste disposal system. The built-in infrared sensor and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Smart-Chip knows when you need to open trash can, and do all the openings and closings for you without touching or step-on anything. No germs on the lid and no odor. Place hand or unwanted debris about 6 inches away from the infrared sensor near the lid. It will open instantly and will close automatically in 5-second after debris has been released and hand moves away. Lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the sensor range. There are two buttons on the front to open and close the lid manually and an on/off switch. Use 4 D sized batteries. Batteries last up to one year. 13 gallon/49 liter brushed finish stainless steel touchless trashcan.

Customer Rating: Summary: Great trash can Comment: We purchased this item 3 months ago and it is awesome. It is so nice not to have to lift a lid or when you have things in your hand to try to lift the lid and keep it clean. I did not think we would like this as much as we do. It seems to be durable so far so no complaints.
Customer Rating: Summary: Broken after 1 year of use between 2 people. Comment: Purchased: August 15th, 2008.
Started malfunctioning: August 2009.
Completely broken: November 2009.
This garbage can was amazing at first. However, after a year of use between myself and my girlfriend, the garbage can sensor began being non-responsive. The close button stopped working properly shortly after this. I have cleaned the sensor and tried various fixes myself which work for a few hours or a day, but then the sensor malfunctions and buttons no longer work.
This product is not designed for 100,000 uses as the amazon page states. I replaced the batteries once after a year of usage, and now the unit is completely dead.
I will be contacting the company for a refund or replacement.
These problems are not the only reason I rate this as 1 star. The sensor is way too sensitive (when it works) - so if you stand near it within a foot it will open up. This is obnoxious if your garbage is near your refrigerator or stove. The lid then doesn't stay open very long if you are scraping something off into the garbage somehow it now closes on you when it was so quick to open before. The batteries lasted a year for me, and I highly doubt we opened it 10,000 times - what the company claims 4 DD batteries will last. That means we opened it 27 times every day? Yeah right...
Customer Rating: Summary: 1 year and still love it! Comment: This trashcan makes me happy. It is like having a pet who begs for a treat. When I first got it my three year old loved to feed it dry cereal. A few weeks in I started having problems with the trashcan opening by itself, and it wasn't until I was on the phone with customer service that I realized there was a clear protective film over the sensor. I removed it and I haven't had a problem since.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best quality and most affordable automatic trash can Comment: I've had this trash can for a year now and it's still working great. I've had absolutely no problems with it. You can't beat it for the price. It's turned out to be a good conversation starter, too.
Customer Rating: Summary: I finally found this piece of junk a useful home...the recycling center! Comment: I have owned a lot of garbage cans, but this was the worst by far! Aesthetically...not a winner here as the bag is visible over the sides. Functionally...yes, it opens automatically, but garbage gets all over the inside of the lid, which is not easy to clean as it contains the batteries. Seriously, this thing is totally gross and a huge pain. It has to be cleaned daily as it's a very poor design. Warning: Do not get this if you have young children. It's not the pail's fault, but that automatic opening action is quite a novelty. They will be thoroughly intrigued by the automatic opener and will activate it over and over so that you are changing batteries quite often. You can turn that feature off, but the switch is very easy to locate and turn back on. You can always remove the batteries, but that defeats the purpose of getting this in the first place. Next, the stainless steel exterior is a finger print magnet (one more daily cleaning chore), and lastly if you fill it to the top, good luck getting the bag out. Its Stainless Steel thin rectangular design makes it very difficult for one person to lift out that bag without help. It gets completely suctioned into the can. It was pretty expensive, so I kept it for over a year, but finally I just bit the bullet and brought it to the recycling center. At least I can feel good that it can be made into something more useful. Honestly, I am surprised by all the rave reviews. I just bought an Oxo black stainless pail with a foot press OXO SoftWorks 10-gal. Enamel Trash Can - Black/ Stainless Steel...ah this is garbage heaven. It is so much more hygienic, and very easy to take out the bag even when full. Don't say I didn't warn you...
