Comment: I have purchased and used serveral stud finders. All of them are disappointed. They work good sometimes, but sometimes not. It is very hard to trust. After stud finder finds a stud, I have to make sure with a nail whether it's a real stud. So most of time I use my finger to find studs even though I always carry stud finders in my van. Now I just bought this from Amazon and used. It works good. This is a just magnet. It does not tell you a lie.

Comment: As a very handy guy, I have always relied on the tried and true knocking trick to locate studs behind the wall and then approximate their center. But when the time came to mount over 100 lbs on the wall (50 inch plasma TV and surround bar speaker with an Omnimount cantilever mount) I didn't want to take any chances.
I ordered this on Amazon figuring if it didn't work I'd just return it. To my astonishment it worked like a charm. It literally sticks to the wall (without your help) when it magnetically connects with a nail (which are typically driven directly into the middle of a stud behind your wall). Using the embedded level (which was a genius addition) you can mark a point directly beneath the located nail.
To be certain the nails were lined up, I would find a few up and down a given stud using this tool and then use my longer level to make sure they were all in the same place. After a few minutes, I was very confident that I had the center and I proceeded to drill the holes into the wall.
This product will definitely impress you. It's incredibly strong and accurate and its very small and easy to use. I highly recommend this tool and urge you to try it so that you can see how great it is too. You will not be disappointed. Don't waste any money on electric or expensive stud finders until you try this. If you've always used the knocking method than this will only make life easier because the tool stays on the wall which makes marking very easy.

Comment: I've tried a number of electronic stud finders and been uniformly disappointed. This simple device does one thing and does it well: it finds the metal screws (or nails) used to attach the drywall to the studs. It's simple, fast and unambiguous: The magnet is powerful enough to hold the finder to the wall over a screw.
There are caveats: It'll find any random screw, nail or other piece of metal in your wall; It assumes that the person who installed the drywall actually hit the stud; It won't detect conduit, wires or electricity. That said, it's easy enough to mark 2 or more screws and confirm they're in a vertical line before driving your own screw or nail.

Comment: The magnet included on this little device is more powerful than I expected. It works really well and the environmentalist in me loves the fact that it doesn't use batteries. The only real downside might be that the nails in the stud might not be at the level (vertically) of where you want to hang whatever you're putting up in which case you'd need to draw a line between two points or otherwise work it out.

Comment: Got this to hang my Plasma TV. I also borrowed the other kind of stud finder from my father-in-law. This works well for me, as this just look for the nails on the wall and usually nails are on 2x4, so it works. My Plasma is on that wall pretty securely and not coming down (knock on wood).
The other kind of stud finder didn't do too well of a job, since the wall I'm hanging on is the separator wall between my townhouse and the next door, I think it's got some pilewood boards, probably made it hard for that kind of stud finder to find stud.
That being said, this stud finder is just a big magnet, so you could theoretically get your own magnet and the do same trick w/o buying this. However, this magnet probably is bit stronger?? Plus the level kinda help.
