Customer Rating: Summary: "Fully" automatic? Comment: This pump is fully automatic only if you want to have it turn itself on/off over 103,000 times in a 6 month time frame! That's right - this pump doesn't have a float mechanism to tell if it needs to turn on. Instead, it turns itself on ever 2 1/2 minutes and senses whether or not it's pumping water. If not then it turns itself off. No wonder it doesn't last very long. In my opinion, once per hour is the minimum amount of time the pump should turn itself on. After all - it's not as if my pool will sink in a heavy rain if the pump goes one hour without starting to pump water. I will keep this pump, but will use it in a semi-automatic fashion - I will leave it unplugged until I need to drain water off the cover.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not For Northern Climates! Comment: If you have to lower the water level in your pool for winter, you should pass on this product. What the sales literature doesn't tell you is that the hose must remain clear of ANY water at all times when the pump is not running. This is impossible since the pump would be below ground level during operation. Any water that remains in the hose after a pumping cycle will freeze and render the pump useless. Based on their claim that this pump works in all conditions and would not freeze, I was expecting a drainage outlet that would allow excess water in the hose to flow back into the pool after a cycle. No such luck. You find out all this when you finally get to read the installation instructions in the box.
I got stuck with the re-shipping charges because I wasn't told the whole story. Not impressed!

Customer Rating: Summary: Good pool cover pump Comment: Bought this pump earlier this year to pump water off the pool cover. Our pool cover had sagged too low in the pool and rain water and leaves weighed it down and it was difficult to open the pool. We used this pump to get most of the water out before we could remove the cover. Pump worked well and had no installation problems. However since the pool cover was way low in the pool it took us a while to realize that the pump was getting the pool water out too. So, we had to stop the pump and remove the cover. I have given it only 4 stars 'cos i have used this only once. We'll see how it works next pool season :)
Customer Rating: Summary: Doesn't hold up Comment: Worked very well year 1, fair year 2, and none year 3. Overpriced for length of time it works. Waste of money!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: good, but not as sturdy as it might be Comment: been using this product for years. i ahve replaced it a few times. it has a 3 yr warranty. keep your receipt as, to my experience, they last about that long. thing is, there really is no competitor's product to compare. this unit turns on every 3 minutes or so, then turns off as soon as no water is detected to pump. so if it is raining, it will turn on, sense the accumulated water, and pump until the water is substantially sucked up and pushed out a hose (that you supply and attach). nice concept. i have a solid pool cover and use it on the cover. it does work well. and the catch basket it sits on is a nice feature as this keeps debris from clogging it.
