I put it on an hour or so before I lie down and off I go. My husband just loves the calming affect it has on him. Gives the room a lovely glow. Customer Rating: Summary: Had to send it back Comment: I only tried it for about four days in a row. For those same four days, I noticed a high-pitched buzzing sound in my room. When I finally figured out it was coming from the lamp while turned "off", I sent it back. I was so desperate that I was willing to pay eighty dollars for a blue light to help me sleep. All scientific research indicates that this type of light is helpful first thing in the morning, certainly not at night!!! This type of light actually signals the brain to destroy the lingering melatonin which is a hormone that makes you sleepy. Using this light at night to fall asleep would be very counterproductive!
