Customer Rating: Summary: hands down COOLEST sewing mag out there . . . Comment: If you're put off by the price or poor reviews here feel free to go to the Burda website where they'll send you 1 issue of the magazine for free so you can take a look at it and try it out. That's what I did and this magazine is amazing! I find it hugely inspiring. It's basically a fashion magazine except that the patterns for all the pieces are actually in the magazine. I don't usually really like Burda patterns and tend to go with other companies' patterns when I look through the big books at the sewing stores, but this magazine is great! Even when there aren't a whole lot of pieces in the magazine that I'm interested in making, there are usually 2 or 3 plus a variety of craft projects, which makes it more than worth the pricetag.
I can't believe I didn't hear about this sooner!
Customer Rating: Summary: Not for petite Comment: I am a 5" 1' woman so I am very petite. Burda patterns almost always start from size 36 or 38, I am around 34 if not smaller. So, unless I am willing to grade the patterns, I won't have much use and I cancel it after 2 isues. For you petite sewers out there, check mrs. Stylebook, a sewing magazine from japan
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Magazine Comment: I have bought this magazine for years. I love the designs and I like having all the patterns with the magazine. This magazine includes many sizes, Misses, Plus, Children, Men and Crafts. On the patterns, you have to remember to add the seam allowance.
Customer Rating: Summary: Why no seam allowances Burda??? Comment: Having heard so much great stuff on all the sewing blogs about BWOF magazine I finally broke down and got it. So far, I've received two issues but I've only made one garment so far, from the first issue. I sort of lost the excitement after that first one for one reason. I don't mind having to trace a pattern but having to then add the seam allowances is just about a deal breaker for me.
I know that sounds lazy but, with little time to sew in the first place, I find it irksome that I have to spend even more time adding seam allowances. It's not fun and it takes up too much of my little time. It seems like such an unnecessary thing to have to make the end user do - why doesn't Burda add them in the first place? True, they take up a little more room. Burda, if you gave me one less pattern per month but added seam allowances, I would be renewing next year.
Oh, but if you like adding seam allowances, or you have some way of doing it that's easier than how I do it, then this might well be worth it. The designs are much more stylish (as are the fabric choices they make in the example photos) than the Big 4 pattern companies.
Customer Rating: Summary: Burda :Magazine Still not received Yet Comment: I am Still waiting for delivery. I ordered over a month ago and it said it was shipped??????
