The only disadvantage I found was that since the heating plates inside are not even,the heat styling sprays that we use stick onto the outer edges. This would require cleaning in between the process. I don't typically flatten my hair from the wet stage, but after I blew my hair dry I used the straighter and found it to be very good. I have thrown out many a hair straightener because I haven't liked them, so this is saying a lot. My hair is wavy to curly depending on the day. This straightener got it stick straight, while not even on the hottest setting. I think if you have hair that is similar, you will be delighted with the many features of this product, including the auto-shut off. This flat iron really does the trick. It indeed does work wet or dry (I prefer dry, however). It heats up quickly and does what I need it to in just one pass. The plates are super smooth, and it never sticks to my hair. I love it!
