Summary: Botti
Comment: Excellent CD. I wish the DVD had more on it but was included was really good. The music itself is great and Paula Cole and Andrea Bocelli really add to the album. Dean Martin never sang better. Botti is very serious (except the Dean Martin wink) and seems somewhat less romantic than he has on some of his previous works. It's well worth the money.

Summary: Good, not great...
Comment: A solid player with great chops, Chris is gifted with admirable self-discipline. Make no mistake: This guy practices a lot--he plays his *** off. However, this recording--aside from the wonderful tone he pulls from that trumpet--is (in my opinion) lackluster. He sounds unfocused, like he was ill, distracted, or half asleep during the sessions. (Of course, half asleep he'd be waaaaaaaaaay better than most.) It's not just the music, although it would've helped to have a few upbeat tunes. These are slow tunes nearly brought to a standstill. "It Never Entered My Mind" drags like a funeral dirge. I like "Estate" the best, I think. Second favorite would probably be the Dean Martin duet, which has some wonderful moments. Maybe the elusive bonus tracks are better (I didn't get them and haven't been able to track them down since it's now been at least two years since the album's release). In any event, compare Chris's playing on this album with the phrasing, support, and artistry he laid down on the currently latest release, Live in Boston. Now, he is absolutely mesmerizing on that CD and DVD. I want him to keep going in that direction. I want him to loosen up even more and do some straight-ahead jazz. He has the potential to be a Miles or Chet, possibly even without living the way they did (smack smack).

Summary: Daydream
Comment: Botti's "Italia" CD is a lovely recording. It's soft & slow. Botti wrote the title track with David Foster which weaves a dreamy sonic landscape. Botti also wrote "Venice" with Dean Parks which makes me flash to Gato Barbieri's fine soundtrack for Last Tango In Paris: Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack. I've loved Botti's collaborations with Paula Cole. On his When I Fall in Love CD she sang the gorgeous "What'll I Do"; and on the soundtrack for August Rush: Music From The Motion Picture they teamed on the Billie Holiday classic "God Bless the Child." On "Italia," "The Very Thought of You" rises with a deft interplay between Cole's voice oozing with emotion and Botti's trumpet coaxing it forward, "I'm living in a kind of daydream, but I'm happy as a queen." That track and "The Way You Look Tonight" are my favorites with Botti bringing the classic melody into full sway. Rita Coolidge accented a samba rhythm for "Estate" on her delightful jazz CD And So Is Love. Botti transplants the track from Brazil to Italy with a lovely charm. "Italia" is slow & sensual, romantic & rewarding. Enjoy!

Summary: I luv Chris Bott, However.,....
Comment: I found this Cd a bit humdrum, Botti plays beautifully as usual, but nothing to write home about.

Summary: Botti at his best!!!
Comment: This is Chris Botti at his best...he has captured the feel of old Italy.
Great album with very well placed cuts.

I would have bought it for "Italia" alone but there are nice surprises...like working with tapes of Dean Martin on "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face"...very nice.
