Customer Rating: Summary: A Delight To Devour Comment: It was with SUPERNATURAL that I discovered the many varied virtues of Amazon Unbox - and I must say that it's a wondrous thing!
I don't usually watch tv, per se. I do, however, love certain network & cable series. To be able to watch them, on my own schedule and at my own whim, right here upon my own computer screen, is just about the closest I've ever come to being spoiled in the whole of my existence!
Now- for this show specifically: Let me just say that I don't think I've ever embraced so whole-heartedly such a guilty pleasure as offered by network tv before in all my history here on earth. In short, I just love this show!
It's in essence the ongoing saga of a family - well, two brothers, specifically- Sam and Dean Winchester, whose mother was killed in 1983 in a fire over Sam's crib when he was six months old, by a supernatural entity. From that moment, Sam's father, John, has raised his children - Dean, who's four years older than Sam, and Sam himself- to hunt supernatural things, with the ultimate feat to kill the thing that murdered their mother.
The allure of this show lies in the dynamics between the members of this fractured little family. Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles play Sam and Dean, respectively. Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Grey's Anatomy") plays John.
There have been recurring characters throughout the three seasons so far, Jim Beaver as Bobby the most notable of Season 3. The acting is simply excellent. There's quite a lot of mythology drawn into the flow of the storyline, though each episode is like an excellent mini horror movie in itself.
The finale of this season left a major and most incredible cliffhanger. I am truly all agog for what happens next!
Finally, if it weren't for Amazon Unbox, I would not have had the pleasure of viewing each of the episodes of this Season of SUPERNATURAL, as I work evenings and nights. I am most thankful it's been available!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Season! one thing missing...classic rock.... Comment: I think that this was the best season of the three. It had action, scary creatures, and its first ever Christmas episode(one of my favorites)!
Dean has one year to live and he is trying to make the best of it by, "killing some evil SOB's and raising a little Hell."
Jus en Bello was another one of my favorites with an unusual ally coming to the rescue. And we also find the brothers in some role reversals, with Sam doing more than thinking and Dean taking it slower. It was very interesting to watch. Can't wait for it to come out.
I did miss the classic rock, but thanks to the writer's strike they had to cut the budget and music was the first to go. But that won't stop me from watching it over and over again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Skany race and gender issues Comment: I have always been a fan a Supernatural, and while I throughly enjoyed Seasons 1 and 2 I recognized that the show didn't have the best actors. *AHEM JARED PADALECKI* But the plot was suspenseful and engaging so I kept on watching.
The set-up for Season 3 was a great one, with Dean only left with one year to live. The execution was...regrettable. In Season 3 we have such episodes as, "Malleus Maleficarum", centered around witches. The episode begins with the death of a black women because of a jealous mistress. The woman's cheating, white husband survives, while all female characters in the episode are killed in violent ways. Another instance is "Jus in Bello", where the demon Ruby (Katie Cassidy, who vastly improved over the entire season) is suggesting to sacrifice herself and a virgin secretary to save the residents of a small town from the demonic possession that they are under. Somehow the rational from Dean is that virgins aren't allowed to die, so the Winchesters proceed to shoot dozens of the town's citizens instead. But in the end a black supporting character who's character was building up from Season 2 is killed in a demonic blast. Um. The last episode is the worst, with Sam and Dean (Dean primarily) constantly using derogatory terms towards woman. It is seriously cringe worthy and leaves you despising the two lead characters.
Season 3 had so much potential, bringing in new and exciting characters, Bela and Ruby and upping Bobby Singer's part. Bela especially was a favorite a mine. A thief, and a woman, who didn't see the need to help out the Winchesters at their beck and call was refreshing. But alas, she was killed off the show, trying to help the Winchesters was told by Dean, "I'll see you in hell."
Supernatural used to have strong, empowered women but somehow they've lost their way. It's too bad really. And the episode quality really doesn't make up for the questionable morals.
Customer Rating: Summary: Everything a TV show needs to be great. Comment: I can honestly say Supernatural is my favorite TV show. I bought seasons 1 and 2 on a whim while I was deployed to Iraq, afraid it would turn out badly since it comes from the same network as Smallville (Smallville is good, but it doesn't compare to the shows that are airing now). It was a steal-$20 for each full season. Third season is just as great, despite Sam and Dean's dad (actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan) didn't make an appearance. I bought season three off iTunes but I plan to buy it on DVD for the extras alone. This show has it all-a great soundtrack, intense moments, intriguing plot, and excellent humor. I don't know of another show where two actors (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) actually act like true brothers like these two. The humor combined with a plot about ghost/demon/mythical creatures/urban legend hunting makes for an outstanding show. It's worth every cent you spend.
Customer Rating: Summary: paranormal holds its own on t.v. Comment: It is a pleasure to see a intelligent and entertaining paranormal show on t.v. The big screen has long been the only place to enjoy a true shiver of fright. I do not include the slasher genre in true horror or the paranormal. The last good show for this on t.v. was the Xfiles and the last season of that show was beginning to push even my endurance.
Padaleckie and Ackles are young and beginning to mature in their art. It has been an absolute wonder to watch the relationship between these "brothers" grow over the last 3 years. The awkwardness between them in the first season made the long estrangement between Sam and his brother and father believable.
The many different types of "monsters, witches, gods and demons" are made all the more believable because the viewer can go to the internet and look up these beings for themselves. The writers have obviously done the research and most of the details are accurate. This just makes it more fun to watch.
I am looking forward to the 4th season with much anticipation. Keep the great shows coming.
