Moist heat treatments are more effective than dry heat treatments. This is because moisture transmits heat better than air. The outer fleece blend cover of the Thermophore Hot Pack draws humidity from the air and retains it. Once the heat is turned on, the moisture is forced out of the fleece blend and onto the treated area.

Recommended for Arthritis or Rheumatism, TMJ, Chronic back or neck pain, Fibromyalgia, Muscle spasms, Sports injuries (after the acute phase), Strained muscles or ligament. The Thermophore Moist Heat Pack, designed and manufactured in the US, is usually compared to the standard heating pad sold in the pharmacy for $20.00 or less. Most patients, and even some medical professionals, are not aware that the Thermophore Pack reaches a much higher temperature and automatically produces moist heat without adding water. The Thermophore Pack is actually considered a medical device. The Thermophore Pack delivers consistent moist heat, which is applied and controlled by the patient for maximum comfort and effectiveness. Microwave products and boiled products do not deliver a consistent, controlled temperature, and may he dangerous to the patient.

Summary: Better than what I had
Comment: I have chronic upper back and neck pain. This product, so far works the best for me. I like being able to control the temperature, but I do not like the time restriction (from 1 to 60 minute max) on the controls...when the time runs out the thing turns off and you have to reset it again if you want to use it longer.

Comment: This thing gets hot quickly and is just what my achy back needed. Some people have complained about the safety switch -- you have to hold it down to get heat, but I think this is a great feature. I have fallen asleep twice on other heating pads and received burns -- so I think their switch is a wonderful idea.

Comment: The Thermophor heating pad is truling amazing. It provides deep, moist heat without the mess of soak and heat pads. It does everything it claims to do. The fleece cover takes moisture from the air and when you use it, the treatment area gets wet, but the cover feels dry to the touch. When the air in the house is particularly dry, we hang in on a towel rack in the bathroom during a shower and that does the trick. How did they do that?! The heat is so intense that you can feel your muscles 'pop' as they release. We had to buy a second, because my husband and I were wrestling each other over our first one! I highly recommend this product.

Comment: I was a little put off by the price, but very tired of buying cheap, drugstore pads that burned out with constant use. Once I plugged this in, however, the intense heat reminded me of why I needed a good one in the first place. The pain relief is amazing. It takes a few tries to get the hang of the control (I just hold it in place with the back of my knee) but it's a small trade off for the almost instant relief. I'd have given it 5 stars, but like all the others, it's hard to use on my neck.

Comment: My wife replaced a much older Thermophore Moist Heating Pad with this new version and she likes it better than the older one that wore out after more than 20 years - it is larger than the older version and the pad and cover are more substantion - this is our second one in over 20 years and we are very pleased with it. The seller did everything in a speedy way.
