Customer Rating: Summary: I feel like I've been let in on a special secret. Shh! Comment: I first learned of Clean Eating magazine when I randomly picking up a copy of Oxygen magazine. I'm a fairly active person, but had been in the fitness/nutrition doldrums for a while. Food was boring me, frankly. Healthy food most especially. I dreaded mealtimes because of my indecision and lack of inspiration, which had only been made worse in recent years by the addition of a fussy British husband who has very particular ideas about what constitutes "real food". I was eating out about 90% of the time, and not particularly enjoying the experience of cooking and eating in.
Enter Clean Eating (CE) magazine. The few CE snippets I was able to glean from that copy of Oxygen (along with some great tips I got from the CE website and fan blogs) was enough to kick-start my new addiction. The recipes are fun, simple, tasty, and HEALTHY. I'd resigned myself that despite my fairly active lifestyle and healthy food choices, I was at my body's "comfortable maintenance weight". 2 months of Clean Eating later, I've effortlessly lost 5 lbs. I'm hardly ever hungry (and if I am, it's because I wasn't paying attention and skipped a snack). My energy levels are through the roof. The recipes have kept me and my picky husband interested all the while.
With most magazines I end up clipping one or two recipes. I *gut* Clean Eating... everything is super-tasty, and a totally feasible amount of effort, even on a weeknight. After experimenting with 30+ recipes, I've only had one "meh" experience. Those odds are as good or better than any other recipe resource I've tried. I've even heard about one reader who uses the magazines as her cookbooks!
Which I guess leads me to the bottom-line: health aside, these recipes are just GOOD. I never find myself thinking, "Oh, this was nice... but would have been so much tastier if I could have used XYZ." Nope. This is real-deal yummy eating, folks. Part of me wants to shout about Clean Eating mag from the mountain tops, but part of me wants to be greedy and keep my new secret weapon safe. So as I said... shhhh! ;-)
Customer Rating: Summary: Not a vegan magazine Comment: This is NOT a vegan magazine. You cannot be truly sustainable unless you are vegan
Customer Rating: Summary: Simply the Best Comment: I am not one to read magazines about food. However, I started a medically supervised weight loss program and this magazine was recommended to me. I read Clean Eating from cover to cover. It is thoughtfully put together and has extraordinary recipes that support a healthy lifestyle. It also has fitness tips and product reviews that are of interest to a person learning to live in a positive and healthy manner. If you are interested in "clean eating", this is the magazine for you.
Customer Rating: Summary: Eat Clean Comment: This is a wonderful magazine packed with seasonal recipes that are nothing but healthy. Some recipes are a little bland. But this magazine gives you some great ideas on cleaning up your diet!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic magazine Comment: This magazine is fantastic -- it's full of easy, healthy, delicious recipes, as well as information that's gone a long way toward helping me organize a balanced diet.
I'm a few years out of college and an inexperienced cook, and I've learned so much about nutrition and food preparation from this magazine while preparing some delicious and impressive (to friends and family) foods. Learning techniques for cooking whole grains, produce and lean meat gives me motivation to cook often and improve my skills. I've cooked meals from this magazine for my husband, friends and family -- all have been a hit, regardless of whether those folks are into healthy eating.
An even harder skill (for me) than cooking is organizing a balanced diet. The articles and meal plans in these magazines helped me gradually lose weight that needed to go, and taught me how to creatively plan meals throughout the day. I've gone weeks where I followed the magazine's meal plans to a tee; other weeks, I've just created meals and snacks similar to those recommended using what I have in the fridge. The delicious recipes and beautiful photography are excellent motivators.
Overall, I highly recommend this magazine. I purchased my first issue at a CVS store to try it out, and have been nothing but pleased with issues of the magazine since.
