Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: What I've heard vs. What I've experienced Comment: I was hopeful, yet concerned when I purchased philosophy's Hope in a Jar. I had heard great things about it, yet the Amazon reviews gave me pause. Here is a rundown of what I heard vs. what I experienced: 1) The smell is awful/great/nonexistent - this was the most confusing thing for me because there were conflicting accounts of how it smelled! I wouldn't say it smells bad, but the smell certainly isn't fruity or floral. Instead, it's almost a medicinal smell. The smell goes away relatively quickly after applying it, so if you don't like the smell, you shouldn't have to deal with it too much. 2) It is very oily/greasy - the feel of the lotion when you're applying it is a bit oily, but it dissolves quickly and leaves no oily residue. The product is 99% oil free, and it didn't leave my skin looking or feeling greasy. 3) My skin is a lot softer after using it - definitely true. I'm loving what it's doing for my skin. 4) It causes breakouts - I haven't had this experience, but I don't have sensitive skin. All in all, I'm very happy with this face lotion and will continue to use it. I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because of the high price, but hopefully it will last me long enough to be worth it. Customer Rating: Summary: Smell is awful Comment: Although I'm a big fan of philosophy products, this cream I had to give away due to the stinky odor. I just couldn't bare the smell as I felt nauseous. Customer Rating: Summary: May be for all skin types, but Comment: The All Skin Types Hope in a Jar is not all that it is stated and in some cases more than you want. Be careful of possible alergic type reactions. While I don't need a moisturizer due to living in a tropical climate, this product came in a kit with other things. I used it a few times and although past 50 I don't have wrinkles. I tried it after washing my face and at first it seemed to make my face have a nice glow. Three months later and 2 specialist doctors later I have finally found out why I have the worst chapped, cracked and bright red sore lips. I have never had this in my life, and don't use any product on my lips, including the Hope in A Jar. It took a lot of hit and miss guesses on my and my specialists part to finally figure out that the Hope In A Jar that I was putting "around" my mouth area was causing a reaction to my lips. This was due to the Retinoids which are the most frequent chemical induced causes for chapped lips. I mention this for help to other women who may be having this issue and not realize that it is not related to the cream you put on your face. I have stopped using all Philosophy products and my lips are almost back to normal. Customer Rating: Summary: This product needs little of your patient Comment: I have a combination asian skin. This is the first US product I tried. I red most of the reviews before I buy it, and they are right on the reaction this product do to your skin. The first week after I tried, I had breakouts on my face. So I stopped for 20 days and tried it again. Seems my skin slowly adjusted to the product and no more breakouts since then. I now use it everyday morning and night. It is not greasy at all and easy to be absorbed by skin, and it is very suitable for hummid weather in Florida. I believe the smell of this product is an issue. I use the original formula. First time I thought I smell fish. But, I guess I like the product a lot so somehow I tolerant the smell. After a while, I just get used to the smell. I will suggest to try a small sample for first time user. If it doesn't work on your face, you can use on your neck area as well. Hope this review helps. Comment: Not for Sensitive Skins-- Perfume is Unnecessary Why would a company put such a heavy perfume in a facial moisturizer? It seems that the majority of the negative reviews are because of the odor. I usually use Clinique, or Bare Minerals which is completely fragrance-free. Even then, I sometimes get reactions (usually to chemical sunscreens that are in a lot of day creams). This product is not a good choice for women who have sensitive skin. It didn't make me break out, because it actually burned and I had to take it off immediately. This product contains Diazolidinyl Urea which is irritating to a lot of people (including me). Conclusion: Lots of good reviews, so I guess it's worth a try, but skip it if you don't like perfumed moisturizers.
