Customer Rating: Summary: Macs are nothing short of perfection Comment: I got my first Blackbook in 2006. I used it for a little under a year and then I spilled a full glass of apple juice into it. I thought it was toast. It still worked perfectly!!
About a year later, I bought a Macbook Pro because I got a scholarship and thought I would enjoy the larger screen. The MBP worked like a jewel; absolutely perfect.
When I started my sophomore year in college, I realized I missed the portability and cute aesthetic of my black Macbook, so I sold the MBP and purchased a new blackbook. I'm still using it now after two years and ANOTHER liquid spill! (I know, I know) This time my Macbook suffered 6oz. of chocolate milk. IT STILL WORKS. Apple products are miraculous. They WILL NOT DIE! In my 4 years of being a Mac user, I have NEVER had a single freeze.
I literally cannot think of a SINGLE complaint.
Pros:
Everything.
***The keyboard (love the chiclet style keys--so discreet and comfy!)
***The trackpad (why waste the time on two fingers when one works just fine?)
***The battery (I get 3 hours at max brightness and wifi/application usage while my friends stare at a dim screen on their pcs that die after an hour and a half.)
***The look (come on, its gorgeous!)
***The speed (I never have to wait for anything! That was one of the first things that amazed me about Macs--you click it and BAM! There it is!)
***The portability (a modest 5 pounds and the screen is plenty large)
***Beautiful screen
***FAST startup time
And all of the little ergonomic and logistic details that you might never have thought of when you were using a PC, but now I get on my Macbook after my boyfriend's giant HP and say, "Ahhh." :)
I'd also like to address the so-called "compatibility issues" that Macs have. In 4 years, I have only stumbled upon ONE application I wanted to use that wasn't Mac-friendly: Second Life, which is def. not essential. Every important program is either Mac-compatible or has a Mac version. Sure, for some things the Mac version might be an extra $10, but HELLO. You get what you pay for, and with a Mac, you're paying for quality. Mac even runs Windows better than PCs with Parallels or Bootcamp. Seriously, come on, PC. You're letting Mac beat you at your own game?
And one last thing. People like to cite Mac's downfall as their prices. My friend has the $999 version ($949 for students and teachers) and I borrowed it for the weekend. I used (simultaneously!!) Photoshop CS3, MS word, DVD player and Camino (awesome Mac version of Firefox) with her 2ghz processor and 1GB ram, and it was FLAWLESS. Mine has 2.4/4GB, but I realize now that even with the lowest-end Mac, you're getting a machine that runs faster and better than a $1000+ PC with "better" specs. Find me a $949 PC that can go months without a restart and never EVER freezes, and you'll win the price argument. Until then...GO MAC!
Customer Rating: Summary: Save 58 cents!!!!!oneone111!!! Comment: I followed a google ad link promising a "blow out sale" on the day that the new Mac Books were unveiled (as well as the new $999 price for the low end model). I am truly amazed that I can save a whole 58 cents! I'm practically creaming my jeans! Sadly, the exact same model is now available for nearly $100 less from Apple. Wake up, Amazon! If you've got inventory you want to move, keep up with the latest news and adjust your prices accordingly!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great computer Comment: I really like my new laptop. Far better than my old PC. Not a big fan of the safari application and i would recommend getting Microsoft Office too.
Customer Rating: Summary: What is all this talk about a Bad MS Vista????? Comment: I don't know what all this negative talk about Microsoft Vista is.
I bought a laptop with Vista OS, and my wife bought an Apple laptop. After three months I'm enjoying my computer while my wife is cursing the day she bought hers. I have thousands of programs to choose from, and a computer screen that shows my applications from border to border, plus I have had no problems with Vista. My wife can only choose from a hand full of programs and her screen only shows a small application window, the rest of the display is a large tool bar. The only saving grace is this. You can partition the hard drive and loaded Microsoft XP on it. Since I loaded Windows XP on her Apple, she is happier, but she still complains about the high cost of an Apple Microsoft computer.
A few things we don't like about her system is.....the USB ports are so close together only one can be used at a time. When you put in the USB stick for a wireless mouse you cant put in a flash drive unless you force it in at an angle. The screen is small and made smaller when you open an application. No interesting programs available. The super high cost of the computer and Apple accessories.
She paid a ridicules $1300 for a substandard system, while I spent $550 for a system that out performs hers and is funner to use.
Customer Rating: Summary: Back to the Mac and loving it` Comment: From 1984 to 1998 we were Mac addicts. Then Apple's well publicized problems drove us to Windoze. In June, we purchased a MacBook, and we're thrilled.
I won't do a feature by feature review. Instead, I'll just list some delight factors:
1. Photobooth. Great fun right out of the box.
2. Free video conferencing. Wow! Download Skype, have free video conferences with the built-in camera without even rebooting.
3. iPhoto: I've moved 15,000 photos from various places to this mac. iPhoto makes it easy to browse, print, etc.
4. GarageBand: My 10-year-old daughter figured out how to make slideshows with music. The photos from iPhoto automatically show up as source material. Magical.
5. TimeMachine: Automatic backup. Zero effort, 100% protected.
6. Spore: Thoroughly addictive game. Runs fine on this machine (1GB memory).
7. Watch television. It's finally happened: TV is really available on the internet now (hulu.com). This laptop is wide screen, so you can watch HD content easily.
8. Quicken: Checkbook done right.
9. Wireless networking: I almost forgot to mention that it took only 2 minutes out of the box to get the wireless working. Range is MUCH better than with my Dell laptop on the same network.
All in all, a wonderful experience right out of the box and for four months since.
