Summary: not worth the $$$$
Comment: I bought the 7 inch version of this and after using it for about 5 hrs. the shaft was completely stripped and bent. I am a professional landscaper and have been using this kind of tool for many years. the metal is too soft and pliable for any kind of dense or rocky soil. the shaft snapped when trying to straighten it. So, like an idiot I went and bought the 12 inch version and when it arrived, it looked nothing like the picture. It had the same 1.5" shaft and just a longer auger bit. Once again, after using it for about 5-6 hrs. it broke.
This time the auger twist broke free from the welds that hold it to the main shaft. These are not cheap augers but the construction isn't worth a dime. I was thoroughly disgusted. Finally, I wised up and went to a well trusted agricultural supply catalog and bought 2 24" auger bits constructed from tempered steel designed to work with gasoline powered landscape drills or heavy duty electric drills. They were half the price and have 18" shafts so even if the shaft strips in the drill, it can be cut down and keep on being used.

Summary: I Dig It!
Comment: This product is exactly as I expected it to be--and more. It works to dig for planting bulbs, but also can be used in any planting situation in the garden. Simply move the auger to an adjacent spot to the one already dug. You can make the hole for the plant as wide as you need it. Great product, just be sure you have a good drill with which to use it.

Summary: Makes it fun
Comment: Actually makes the annual chore of bulb planting fun and is a great little mini-cultivator for the flower beds.
