Summary: Too Buggy & Tech Support is $2.95/min.
Comment: I started out using the free Zonealarm firewall several years ago and moved to the Zonealarm Pro in 2007. It used a lot of resources and slowed things but I thought it was probably no worse than other products on the market. When the 2008 product uploaded many things started going wrong. The antivirus and spyware wouldn't update and when they ran so many resources were being used nothing else could be done on the computer. Also, the email scan for viruses ran extremely slowly. (I have 1.5G RAM in case anyone is wondering.)
I went to the Zonealarm site for support. NOthing was listed for the error messages I was receiving so I looked on the user forum. This was *incredibly* enlightening. Many others were having the same problems and six things were being offered that you could do to fix the issue. Some of these things were not simple and the average PC user would probably be too intimidated to do them.
I spent 4 hours one evening doing each of these things but the problem wasn't solved. This is when I discovered there is NO free telephone tech support for this product. It costs $2.95 per minute.
I did some research reading PC Magazine and CNet reviews and purchased Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. It is fast and easy to use and I am amazed at how much faster my computer is now. Plus, the tech support is FREE. Performance does not have to be sacrificed for protection.
