Customer Rating: Summary: Not Accurate! Comment: I purchased this meter to check the moisture level of some indoor plants and be sure I was watering correctly. I had been sticking my finger in the soil to test. I have been gardening for a long time and plants were doing well but some pots hold water and others dry out quickly - thought it would be nice to have an accurate moisture meter than my finger. Well this product is not the one. I followed the directions and stuck it in several times & places. The meter was reading "wet" so I did not water my plants and almost killed a couple. The touch test was much more accurate that this meter! I would not buy or use again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Keep fingers clean and plant healthy........ Comment: This is a must if you want healthy plants. No more over-water and/or dry plants. An absolute must for the house. Like anything with flexible a flexible wire you will probably have to replace it sometime but it is reasonably priced and does NOT use any batteries. Also it is reasonable enough you can't justify running around to try to find one so this is a great way to purchase. I have purchased one of these to keep the Mom-In-Law happy as well. That is a good thing....
Customer Rating: Summary: Cheap and insensitive; wholly lacking in quality control Comment: I purchased a Luster Leaf 1820 Moisture Meter to have an objective way to keep my African Violets from drowning or becoming a desert.
I *like* the separate probe, it works great in a shelf environment for spot checking pots. What doesn't work is the whole instrument.
Bone-dry potting mix and bone dry air read "dry", <1; slightly damp potting mix reads "dry" <1; wet potting mix read "dry", <1; everything read dry <1.
I lost 25 violets to root rot from overwatering that were dry <1.
I finally put the probe directly in a container of water, and got a reading of 4, which according to the back panel, was perfect for African Violets. Which of course, is *not* the reality of life...
Those of you who whom have gotten good ones, good luck, and replace your batteries. It looks like about 50% aren't any good.
Luster Leaf 1820 Moisture Meter
Customer Rating: Summary: Moisture Meter Comment: It seems to work very well and keeps my wife from over watering her potted plants.
Customer Rating: Summary: not long enough Comment: I have gone through so many of the "stick" type moisture meters which break down after a short while. This type is not as convenient but I hope it will last longer. The problem with this is that it's not long enough for larger potted plants.
