Customer Rating: Summary: Good features but one significant bug Comment: I have used his product for a few months and have found the editing features great BUT I have also found one bug that now severly limits its usefulness: not all my MP3 files will load. I get "File Format Mismatch." I sent some MP3 files to Corel support and they also couldn't load them. They said that it must be a codec problem, yet, as I told Support, they ALL play fine in MS Zune, on my wife's iPod and on my PC, so I'd say it's a Corel problem. Anyway, they aren't going to fix it so I chalk it up to a life-lesson learned: don't buy this product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Crashes, Content sucks and Performance is worse. Comment: I agree with all the 1 stars out there although I haven't ran into any rendering issues yet. The product even after patch still crashes like every 15 minutes or so. I think their solution to that problem was to auto-save ever so often and just ask if you want to recover the last project before it crashed. Basically if you don't save VERY often, work more then 15 minutes at a time, you will inevitably ALWAYS lose some work you were doing!!
Performance is HORRID. 90% of the time I can't preview the audio or video because the audio either doesn't play until a few seconds, or sometimes even 20+ seconds has passed and it starts to chime in. Video is very choppy working with hi-def RAW footage. I have noticed as you edit a project, the further down the timeline you are trying to preview it the worst the performace gets. My system specs are not the issue either. I have a beefy graphics card and dual core CPU @ 2.5 GHZ. I notice the system resources don't even get fully utilized sometimes when the program is sometimes at it's worse for performance also.
Also while their manual is very thick you may think it's a handy guide or a good thing to read all the way through to really take advantage of the software I quickly found that their explanations were very lacking. I was wondering what all the options are actually doing for all the audio filters (lots have sensitivity sliders etc) and there is no mention about them other than how to pick one and apply it. By the way I had 2 cameras shooting the same event both with hissing and the Remove Hissing audio filter basically took the low tone "Shhhhhhhh" hiss sound and the best it could do was to turn it into a high pitched sound of "a million far off crickets!"
I will never be buying ANYTHING from Corel after I wasted my money on this pile of crap.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wouldn't work Comment: I bought a new HP near top of the line computer and installed my copy of VS Pro X2. I then downloaded the patches on the Corel site that make it compatible with Win7. Transfered movie from camera, edited, did effects, etc. When trying to put on DVD disk got message "Could not transfer data to disk". After several attempts, uninstalled and reinstalled with same result. Contacted Corel Tech by email and never even received a response. Was able to burn disk with WinDVD, but hardly the finished product that I wanted. Obviously indifferent customer service, though a fee service is available. Good luck if you have to pay Corel to stand behind their product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Making Movies Comment: The software seems to largely work well. I have made DVDs from both video and stills. However the editing features are not simple and easy to use--at least not for me. I had expected it to be easy to edit out segments but have not figured out how. The introduction segments the system adds are nice but I have not figured out how to add just one layer when making a DVD. It was also not clear before purchasing the software that specific/special hardware was needed to make Blu-Ray products. I would saw the product is a lot more complex than expected and not totally useful for simple editing and production of video products.
Customer Rating: Summary: Video Studio Pro & a Video Camera & You're Good to Go Comment: Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is a user friendly program with a user friendly interface which lets you produce an animated title screen then put a video together by dragging and dropping various audio and video parts onto your montage line. The program comes with a wide range of editing and output choices. I was using Ulead (this is the successor to that) and I liked it just fine. I didn't expect this to be much better, but I always like to upgrade and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how easy this program is to use and navigate though. It was easy before, it's easier now.
This really is an all in one video editing program which lets you work in both HD and standard definition movies, DVDs and slide-shows. You can edit your videos without any trouble at all. I know, because if I can do it, anybody can. But if you get in any trouble, there is the handy, dandy Movie Wizard to help you right along. You can paint or draw on your videos if you want, you can burn them onto DVDs and even onto Blu-ray discs, but of course, you'll need a Blu-ray player to do that. You can even watch them on your iPod.
To sum it up you can grab your video from your camcorder or TV, edit with the help of the Movie Wizard, or not, and then turn it into a movie by adding titles and special effects, even music if you want. And it's not hard to do, it really isn't.
