Customer Rating: Summary: This contact lens disinfectant works Comment: Have been using this stuff for years.
Quality product.
It works.
I will continue to use it.
Would not want to go without it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best I've been able to find Comment: I've used a number of different solutions which all made my eyes itchy & dry after about an hour. This one is what I would consider the best overall solution. It has its downsides, though. For me, this solution makes my eyes sensitive to light & a little itchy for about the first 45 minutes they're in, which is a huge pain. But the only other solution I can tolerate (Opti-Free Express) makes my eyes much less itchy for the first 45 minutes, but they never get any better. They just stay mildly dry & itchy all day. So for me, it's a pain but it's worth it because after that 45 minutes, they feel great all day.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not recommending Comment: I have been wearing contacts for over 16 years and have never before had a problem with my eyes nor have I ever had an allergic reaction to anything. At my last eye appointment the eye doctor was pushing the Replenish product. The small trial bottle he gave me seemed fine, so the next time I needed solution I decided to purchase Replenish because supposedly it moisturized more and I thought if my doctor recommended it, I should get it.
Within a week or two my eyes became sore and really pink (especially underneath my iris). The bottom eyelids were also slightly swollen. People were commenting about how bloodshot my eyes were. I woke up one morning with goopy eyes. At first I thought maybe I had caught conjunctivitis, but my eyes weren't that itchy. It became so that I would have to take my contacts out when I got home from work because I couldn't stand to have them in anymore. 4-5 days into these symptoms it became evident to me that it was not conjunctivitis or the contacts themselves that was the problem...it was the Replenish solution. I went out and purchased the brand I had been using for years (RENU) and the redness began clearing up within 24 hrs. It still took a few days before my eyes were completely back to normal.
I would not recommend this product and have been warning people I know that also have contacts to be weary of this product.
Customer Rating: Summary: very red eyes, not able to tolerate contacts - both me and my sister Comment: My and my sister's experiences with Opti-Free RepleniSH are not good. Normally I used Aquify contact solution, but about 6 months ago my eye doctor gave me a free small bottle of the Opti-Free RepleniSH. At first, it was okay, and I then bought 2 bottles of RepleniSH when the pharmacy I was at did not have any Aquify (I figured it would be the same). With regular use of the RepleniSH, I started getting very irritated red eyes by the end of the day. I lost my ability to sleep in my contacts. Eventually it got to the point that my eyes would become red just a few hours after putting in my contacts. I tried replacing my contacts earlier than their normal schedule, but the redness and irritation still happened. Eventually I ended up wearing glasses nearly every day, and saving contact lens wearing for special occasions (this did not make me happy - I don't like my glasses). Inevitably, my eyes would get red whenever I wore my contacts, and it would take a week of wearing glasses before my eyes got better. I had no problems with my brand of contact lenses for YEARS before using Opti-Free RepleniSH solution, and I tolerated my contacts so well that I didn't even have problems sleeping in them before so I doubt it's a problem with the contacts.
At around the same time, my sister complained to me about her eyes being red. She thought it was because her eye doctor had her buy a new type of contact lenses. She switched back to her old brand of contacts, but she continued to get red eyes within an hour after putting in her contact lenses. Her eyes' reaction was even worse than mine. She hates glasses more than me... it got to the point that she just up and decided to get Lasix done because wearing contact lenses was intolerable for her (despite more than 15 years of wearing contacts with no problem).
About 3 months ago, I still did not know why my eyes were getting so red. I was discussing my eye problems with my sister when we both realized that our eye redness issues occcured after starting to use Opti-Free contact solution. I immediately stopped using it and switched back to my Aquify (I still have a half-used bottle of Opti-Free RepleniSH at my place, hey it's not expired and maybe guests might want to use it?). Result- my eye problems have gotten BETTER but my eyes are still WAY more sensitive than they used to be. I still can't wear contacts every day, and I hate having to wear glasses so often. It seems that something about that Opti-Free had sensitized my eyes. It's not NEARLY as bad as it was when I was actively using the Opti-Free (I am now able to handle a whole day of contact lens wearing with my Aquify), but I can no longer sleep in my contacts (they ARE approved for sleeping in), and my eyes still sometimes get red by the end of the day.
I'm hoping that as time passes and it is longer and longer since I've used the Opti-Free RepleniSH, my eyes will get back to normal. I'm gonna stick to Aquify, I never had a problem with it and I wish I never used anything else.
Note - I also don't recommend generic contact lens solutions - I used to always use them, but maybe about 2 years ago, a generic solution gave me burning eyes, and so I only bought Aquify after that, never had a problem again until I tried Opti-Free RepleniSH.
Note many months later - my eyes did indeed get back to normal, thank goodness. I won't touch Opti-Free RepleniSH ever again!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Product, One Of Only Two Products For Silicone Hydrogel--Yes It DOES matter what you use... Comment: I have worn soft contacts since they were tested in the 70's 9 (oh my!), and have worn regular contacts, colored contacts and even special effects contacts over the years.
This year, my eye Dr. switched me to the newer silicone hydrogel ( In my case PureVision Toric ). Sensational product, with outstanding vision.
One thing he mentioned, was to use the right solution made for a silicone hydrogel product.
To my knowledge, there are currently only two products out there in the USA- I prefer this one, though both are good. I will review the other one soon.
As I am a bit of a rebel - I was certainly taken aback by the premium price, so I tried store brands/brand names of typical solutions- was it horrible or the end of the world? NO. Was it great--NO!
But when I compared this to using Alcon's Replenish, I found far greater lens comfort, better vision and that the contacts DID last 30 days with perfect vision, and NO eye irratation at all.
This product is well worth your money should you wear the silicone hydrogel contacts. It is not cheap, but it works.
I have found it at CVS in my area, but was taken aback when a Duane Reed in NYC was out of stock on a recent trip- the price sticker was there, but not the product.
Thus, getting this from Amazon seems to make sense to me - you have one for home, one for work, and a spare pack. You can order this once, and easily be set for 6 months to a year, I imagine.
This truly is one of those products that you need, if you wear the silicone hydrogel's.
