Summary: Great for Aquariums
Comment: I use this timer for my aquariums. I have 4 of these timers and I will undoubtedly purchase more. This timer was recommended by the Intermatic Tech Support team in response to my email question about the correct timer to use for aquarium systems and fluorescent lighting. This timer's ratings allow it to be used with fluorescent lights commonly found in aquarium set ups. You really have to use a specific timer with fluorescent to help with bulb life and avoid safety problems. You shouldn't just use a standard elcheapo lamp timer. I don't know if this timer is suitable for VHO or Halide type aquarium lighting, so please check on that through the Intermatic website before you use it with that type of aquarium system. The Intermatic people said this item could be found at Lowe's and Home Depot, but neither the local stores or the websites had them. I could not find the timer anywhere in my area. I was very happy to find the timer here on Amazon.
The timer is somewhat difficult to program at first. There is a very specific sequence of pushing the correct button and turning the dial, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. I like the multiple on/off cycles and ability to program different cycles for different days.
I was disappointed to find out both outlets are controlled by the same cycle(s). I assumed each outlet could be independently programmed and control two separate items with separate on/off cycles, but that's not the case. Also, the unit is large so expect it to take up an entire standard wall outlet or extra space on a power strip.
I appreciate a company with great customer service and the Intermatic people have been great to answer my questions and make recommendations. I recommend this timer to all of my friends with aquariums.

Comment: I've used different makes & models of electronic timers over the years & find that this timer is the best dedicated appliance timer I've ever owned.
The only reason for the 4 star rating is that the programming may be difficult for a novice. You do have to read the instructions with this timer because the operation is not intuitive, especially for someone used to turn key electronics (and routinely dispose the instructions without ever reading it).
Otherwise, I liked this timer well enough to order a 2nd identical timer from Amazon. Additionally, Intermatic's limited lifetime warranty is a plus.
