Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Don't throw out that nuvi 350! Comment: I bought my nuvi 350 (from Amazon) 7/07. I love using it. I recently installed this map update, because the new interstate (I-99)was not on my 2007 unit. Well, it is now! I choose the lifetime update package. It was a lot cheaper on Amazon than from Garmin. What you get is a plastic card w/ a product key. If you have not already registered your unit w/ Garmin, do so. During this process, you will install the proper plugin so Garmin can communicate w/ your unit. When you are ready to install the new maps, hook up your unit, go to garmin & follow the links & directions. Be sure you have plenty of time. The download is over 2Gb. It took my fairly fast computer a little over 2 hours to do the download. When the download is complete, it will auto upload to your unit. This also took a bit of time. I think over an hour...don't know, I went to bed. Anywho, in the morning I checked to see if the newly opened section of I-99 was there, & it was. This was a lot cheaper than turning around & buying a new unit. The nuvi 350 is a great unit. I like it because it was inexpensive, & I can enter UTM's, something I could not do w/ a more expensive Magellan unit. Customer Rating: Summary: Happy Comment: It took quite some time to update my GPS unit, but it gave me what I was expecting. It is not perfect and is has some incorrect information in it. But overall, it finds what I need it to find and gets me where I need to go. Customer Rating: Summary: I couldn't find this on Amazon when I looked. Comment: I searched Amazon for Garmin maps this morning and couldn't find this one; I just saw a bunch of CDs for new installations. So I ended up buying this directly from Garmin for a higher price. Now I saw it on my "recommended for you" page, obviously as a result of my search. I'm so annoyed, particularly at myself for not putting "lifetime" into the Garmin maps search. In any case, the installation procedure is a trip in itself but to their credit, Garmin does warn you that it will take several hours, which allows for planning. OTOH, it doesn't say anywhere on the Garmin site (or maybe I missed that too) that you need a particular version of a web browser, but I had no luck installing it with Internet Explorer 7 and wasted an hour. Before contacting Garmin Customer service I tried installation again with Firefox, and it worked. It still took a long time, but it progressed smoothly. We followed the directions on the package and it got us nowhere. We kept playing and searching with the Garmin web site until we found the correct place to go to register the card and get the updates. The updates are great, but take forever to load. Customer Rating: Summary: A savings over direct Garmin purchase and installation was straightforward Comment: I did not have any trouble installing from my account at the Garmin site. Nice savings over their price. Too bad the lifetime subscription cannot transfer to a replacement unit, but I can understand their reasoning. If they need to replace after you use their repair service, they will transfer (according to Garmin support).
