Customer Rating: Summary: Like others have stated the noise is a problem Comment: Bought this printer on a whim, needed one, was at the store and it had all the features I was looking for. Like others have stated the power generates a constant high pitch noise. Even when the printer goes to sleep you still hear that loud high pitch noise. Other then that seems like a good printer. If you follow directions it is easy to setup and to run. Just can't get past the noise, so will be returning for a different printer.
Customer Rating: Summary: 8500- Fantastic for Documents But bad for sacle drawings Comment: I bought the OfficejetPro 8500 Wireless in India for $423 today.
Setup was very easy and the web interface really good. I have it connected to my small business network on a wired ethernet. You have to install the cd on each computer on the network to get the print, scan, copy and fax functions. The printer is really fast. Two sided copying with the ADF is a breeze. There is some noise and vibration but thats okay if you level the printer.
But, sadly I will have to return the unit. It does not print drawings to scale. I need to print a lot of design drawings to scale. I did a small test by plotting three geometric entities: A 100mm line, A 200mm line and A 60mm diameter circle and printed them at actual size. The 100mm line printed to 100.5mm, the 200mm line printed to 201mm and the 60mm dia circle printed to 60.3mm dia. This is unacceptable. I printed the same drawing on my old HP Laserjet 1050 and it printed exact.
The 8500 seems to be great for documents but one should stay away from it if one has to print 1:1 drawings.
The HP return policy in India is not as good as in the USA. Looks like I will have to spend a lot of time in getting the issue resolved.
Customer Rating: Summary: Extremely aggravating Comment: Ihave to add my vote to the others for this product really being a poorly made and a major pain. I have spent all day trying to get it to print without jamming. The printing is horrible and it rarely prints without jamming. I have spent most of the day pulling out the jammed paper. The paper that did go through came out all torn and with corners folded down. I think that there is a part that is broken and it broke so easily that it tells me that this product is really poorly made. The software is also difficult. I am extremely disappointed. I will likely end up trashing it.
Customer Rating: Summary: update of my first review--printer has proven unreliable Comment: I first purchased this printer in early July 2009 and gave it good reviews--but i spoke too soon. By the second week of ownership, the printer had to be returned due to continously misfeeding paper through the machine resulting in torn edges. My sister had also complained on several occaisions it fed paper in for a scan or fax or copy, but the page "went right through" without actually scanning or faxing or copying. The new printer arrived as a replacement from Amazon promptly. This printer does not misfeed but there are continued examples of pages going through without scanning or faxing or copying. Result--printer does not perform reliably. As others have also complained, it does too frequently stop to realign print heads. This printer replaced my HP 7400 all in one wireless which i was very happy with and was very reliable. I never had problems with multi page scans, copies or faxes. Unfortunately the 7400 "died" suddenly possible due to a power surge and i was informed HP did not repair the electronic panels. I think i should have tried harder to have it repaired. I am no longer happy with the HP 8500 pro and am disappointed in the unreliability. I will be keeping my eye out for a replacement--i am trying to determine if the canon pixma 7600 would be a better machine.
Customer Rating: Summary: VERY DIFFICULT SET UP !!!! Comment: This is my 3rd all in one... The first two were a breeze to set up... NOT THIS ONE ! And it STILL has bugs !! I had my IT guy hook it up after i knew i was in over my head... he spent a couple hours, and it is still not right !! He has to come back... If he can get it all working well, maybe i will add a couple of stars.. but I doubt it !!!
If you are very good at PC set up and software that is difficult to install, go for it... otherwise, you will pull your hair out. By the way, it was hooked into my HP Pavilion too.. (also new) so everything SHOULD HAVE run smoothly ! The longer I own HP products, the more I dislike them !!
