Customer Rating: Summary: What a joke Comment: $60.00 for a direct console port to the pc? No servers for multiplayer and a game thats beat in 3 - 4 hours? What was this company thinking?
Customer Rating: Summary: DON'T listen to the boycotters! Comment: This has to be one of the best games I've ever played.
Graphically, the game's above average but not amazing. Graphics don't matter anyways.
The gameplay is excellent. I have to admit sometimes it was a little difficult, as I'm an expert PC gamer and died a few times here and there on Recruit. So don't expect teaching your parents or uncles or aunts to be as good as you. This game is intense and highly polished.
Multiplayer is still amazing and I don't miss dedicated servers at all. The amount of customization is amazing and after over 30 hours of Multiplayer have barely scratched the surface. The gametypes are very fun, and I enjoy Domination more than Team Deathmatch. I haven't really played 3rd person, but from what I have played, it was fun.
Spec Ops is fun, but I enjoy singplayer and multiplayer more. I do love the stealth sniper missions very much, but they're very difficult without a partner.
Singleplayer is just excellent. It's full of twists and turns and I was NEVER bored.
Just buy this game. If you don't want to pay $60(which it's totally worth), wait until it's $40 or $50. You won't be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: All the complaints are substantiated Comment: I imagine that if you stumble upon my humble review of Modern Warfare 2, you must have already ready through 10+ one star reviews complaining about this game. It's probably rather superfluous of me to talk about this product given the amount of feedback that there is, but I still cant resist to throw in my own 2 cents. All the negative comments that you are seeing here about this game are all in fact true and substantiated. The campaign, while very interesting is extremely short and linear. The multiplayer lacks dedicated servers (by far the biggest problem) and does not allow more than 18 people to play simultaneously (also very annoying if you like me, prefer larger scale battles). There is a decent amount of lag while playing online and sometimes there is a long wait for players to join a game. Finally, there is no reason for a PC game to be costing $60, a $10 increase over the standard new release price.
The graphics improvements are pretty impressive, however the general gameplay remains largely unchanged, with riot gear being the one true innovation. Multiplayer maps seem to encourage a faster pace game over a more tactical and positional one that was more prevalent in Modern Warfare 1 and World at War.
I am pretty much a 100% multiplayer FPS person, so despite the many shortcomings, there is still some fun to be had playing this game online. Basically, if you want a bit of a change of pace and a distraction from playing World at War and Modern Warfare 1 online and dont mind grossly overpaying, then get this product. If you expect to be impressed and totally hooked, then you are in for a major disappointment.
So to conclude, does it meet the expectations of this long anticipation? Absolutely not. Is it worth $60? Again, a resounding no. Is there a chance that Activision/Infinity Ward will do something to correct the multiplayer experience? Probably not, yet I am still a bit hopeful.
Thanks for reading.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Multiplayer, excessively short Single-Player content Comment: I think I speak for many when I say that the multiplayer is what MADE the Call of Duty series. Mods and dedicated/private servers made it possible for the series to succeed. Without those features this type of game will be short lived and lackluster at best. The original content is nice but gets old and boring quick. Since this game IS part of a franchise, it has to be compared to it's predecessor. In that regard it simply fails to deliver an experience remotely comparable to its predecessors.
If this game was NOT in the call of duty series, It would be worthy of a 3/5. But it IS in the Call of Duty series and simply fails to match any of its predecessors on any level. With that said; 1/5 - Very poor.
Customer Rating: Summary: Stands on its own two feet, but can't hold a candle to COD 4 Comment: I'm going to review both the single player and multiplayer; the single player review will contain MAJOR SPOILERS, so skip it if you don't want to know how the game ends.
Single Player:
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! SPOILERS!
The game starts out great. A nice artic mission to help you get your feet wet and into the Modern Warfare "mood." This euphoric feeling continues to escalate into the second and third missions where they begin to develop the plot, introduce new characters (two stand out: General Shepherd and Makarov), and outline your objectives. Playing as "Roach" is a lot of fun, and having "Soap" as a mentor is even more of a thrill.
You'll also play as a few different soldiers from the Army Rangers. Although I enjoyed this aspect of the game and understood its necessity in helping to advance the plot, the missions kinda felt rehashed and "same old, same old." The attack on DC and the subsequent fight on Main Street, USA are fun enough, but I personally felt that those missions seemed out of place for a COD game.
The mission where you play as a soldier who has infiltrated Makarov's mob is gut wrenching to say the least. It's no wonder the games allows you the opportunity to "opt out" of it. To me, it served no other purpose than to show you how truly evil Makarov and his thugs are. (In case you're wondering, yes I did play the mission, but no I did not kill a single civilian).
So, from those first few missions the game alternates between playing as "Roach" and attempting to track down Makarov or playing as an Army Ranger repelling the Russian invasion of DC. Albeit, the plot was a bit lost on me and I didn't understand where Makarov came from or how he managed to hoodwink the Russians into invading the US. If anyone reading this can calrify it would be greatly appreciated.
At long last, the Ranger squad you fight with manages to fight its way through the ruins of DC and reclaim the White House. This is where their story ends, unfortunately. You're then left, playing as "Roach," with "Task Force 141" to hunt down Makarov. You and "Ghost" plus other 141ers storm a safe house and retrieve vital data on Makarov's ops. You're then greeted at the LZ by General Shepherd, a US Army General, and the man whose been briefing you thruought the game on your missions. But the big twist that you didn't see coming is that when you hand over the data to Shepherd he (surprise!) shoots both you and "Ghost" dead. This is where the plot gets incredibly confusing.
So, with the Rangers' story done, and "Roach" dead, you're left to play as "Soap" with Capitan Price (Yes, he's back too!) to finish the mission to eliminate bot only Makarov, but General Shepherd as well. Long story short, you end up fighting your way through the mini "war" between Shepherd's men and Makarov's men until you finally track Shepherd down with Cpt. Price and kill him. The last battle is certainly climactic and true to COD form. However, the ending was very abrupt. After killing Shepherd, Cpt. Price and Nikolai (Oh, yes he's back too!) help you onto a helicopter and it's game over.
My axes to grind (keep in mind that the plot is somewhat lost on me, so I may have missed a few things):
1. Uh, hello, as far as I know Makarov is still out there somewhere. I only killed half of the "bad guy." I can only imagine that they're going to add the "Makarov Mission" as DLC sometime in the future.
2. To me, the plot wasn't very well explained. Sure, I had a superficial understanding of the story but a lot of it was lost on me. It also felt very rushed.
3. I don't know what possessed IW and Activision to make Shepherd and the US Army the "bad guy" but that part of the story is really a downer. I get it, its "cool" to hate America these days, and the military in particular; but how about a little respect for these folks.
Now Multiplayer:
MW2's multiplayer is great. Don't let the dedicated server dorks tell you any different. I've played hours of multiplayer without any kind of hiccup, and have experienced nothing that the dedicated server fanatics warned me I would experience. Sure, there are only a max of 18 players per game, but so what? To be quite honest I was none too thrilled runnig around in COD 4 with 40+ other players, it felt very cramped and you died as soon as you respawned. That, my friends, equals no fun. 9 vs 9 is refreshing. So you dedicated server pansies need to quit whining and man up.
The guns, perks, and maps are a blast as well. Overall I'd say the multiplayer is on par, if not better than COD 4. Please keep in mind however, that I am not a member of a "clan," and do not play for 48 hours striaght each time. I have a job, and a wife, and other priorities. I'm more of a casual multiplayer player. So, for we casual gamers, this multiplayer is fantastic.
Overall, I enjoyed MW2, but it will never take the place of its predecessor. COD 4 set the bar very high, and IW and Activision failed to reach that bar again with MW2.
