The severity of the pain decreased after 4 hours of usage in the first day. Now I have an alternative to using pain killer pills. I stopped using Tylenol after I heard the recall and a lot of discussion about the side effects of long term usage on liver and kidney. Since then, I have been looking for alternative method to help with the pain. I even tried physical therapy, different kind of gels and patches with low degree of success. I heard about this device from my aunt who lives in Canada. I was very skeptical about using it, because I tried a lot of things and nothing seemed to work. Today I went to work wearing it and it is not noticeable. The only thing I probably would change about this device is the size. Needs tweaking for on/off switch, battery life,and price Comment: I am considering my second purchase of the acti-patch since it gave very helpful relief of my chronic upper back and neck pain. I used it while sleeping and it is comfortable enough to allow you to sleep soundly without waking up due to cords, equipment, and heat as with a heating pads and other devices. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the inconvenient way to turn it on/off with a little tab you slide in and out of mechanism. A family member threw out the tab since it can be easily mistaken for an old piece of packaging and it was not easy to improvise with a piece of folded paper. I spent time doing this however since I LOVED the pain relief so much and wanted to turn it off to preserve the battery life. Which brings up another point that it would be more helpful if the battery was replacable and I didn't have to purchase an entire new product (not cheap at over $40 with shipping)As a medical professional and lupus sufferer, I would recommend this product overall as the best non-drug pain relief I've found to date. Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent for lower back problems Comment: I have been surfing for over 25 years, and lower back pain is very common with experienced surfers. I don't like using tylenol or advil - I just don't like what the cumulative effect these drugs probably have on my body. Acupuncture or chiropractic manipulation can help, but both are expensive. I tried this patch with an open mind, and I am soooo glad I did - this is AWESOME! I put it on after a hot shower before I hit the sack, and when I woke 8 hours later there was already big improvement. I was just hanging out for the day so I kept it on, and by the end of the day I could do backflips - the pain was completely gone. This thing works AND it's non-invasive. Couldn't ask for better - we only get one body, and we need to take care of it. A+ for this product.
