Customer Rating: Summary: good antivirus product Comment: I installed this on my PC running Vista. The product seems to provide the protection that it claims, the only problem is that installation from the CD resulted in two missing files, so when installing do not select the install from CD option, and let it download the softwares from the web.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than Kaspersky, but not as good as Norton Comment: The last time I used McAfee's Internet Security Suite was 2008. Since then, I have been using the Norton Internet Security Suite and was very happy with it. But since it was about to expire at the same time I was about to do a clean install of Windows 7, I figured I'd give McAfee a try again.

First, let me speak about Norton for a minute. Norton had gotten to the point (pre-2008) where it was almost unusable because of how much it bogged down your machine. A lot of people, including myself, completely gave up and never looked back. But when last year's version was released, it was highly recommended by many of the review sites because of how low of an impact it made on the system. I gave it a try and was extremely impressed. It would scan in the background when I would break away from the computer for a few minutes, and as soon as I returned it would stop doing it's thing. It was a great year with Norton.
Now on to McAfee 2010. While bug-free and not extremely slow (unlike Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010), it is still not as speedy and unnoticeable as Norton 2010 is. I still find myself once in awhile saying "why are things slowing down on my computer right now?" and when I check the task manager, the answer is usually "McAfee is doing its thing".

The firewall in MIS2010 is acceptable. It detects every instance of outgoing traffic by a new program and asks you to allow it or not, just like the other suites. I have not had any instances of things getting through MIS2010 either outbound or inbound that I didn't have control over. It's always interesting to read the logs to see how much traffic is hitting my machine (and getting blocked) from the outside and from where.

While I can't comment on how well it detects viruses, I can tell you that the scan slows things down a bit, even when you are working. For some reason, McAfee doesn't do background scans as well as Norton does. It's not HORRIBLE, but it is noticeable.
All-in-all, McAfee is a solid and capable product. Just don't expect it to be unnoticeable.
Customer Rating: Summary: This product has worked wonderfully for me Comment: I installed McAfee about 6 weeks ago and have loved the result. It is easy to navigate and change settings if necessary, including parental controls. Previous internet security software has slowed my computer, but McAfee Internet Security runs silently in the background without slowing down the computer, has faster start-up, shut-down and scan times. This software also contains the latest Active Protection technology, which provides immediate protection against threats to your computer (literally takes a fraction of a second to detect and respond to threats). I think that for the protection that you get, you can't beat the price.
Here are the benefits of using McAfee:
Anti-virus
Anti-spyware
Anti-spam
Anti-phishing
Two-way Firewall
Web Site Safety Ratings (McAfee Site Advisor)
Identity Protection
Parental Controls
Data Backup
Here are the system requirements.
Microsoft® Windows 2000 (32-bit) with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or higher,
Windows XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher,
Windows Vista (32- or 64-bit) and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher
Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Value and Top Security Features Comment: This is a nice security program for the money. A neat new feature is the link security tool. You scroll over a website link while on the internet and McAfee will provide you a color coded risk level. This is extremely nice when surfing the web. Also a nice feature is to have the anti-theft encryption, which lets you set passwords to protect files and network monitoring that will alert you if anyone tries to connect to your wireless network. I found this software to be easy to install, but like most security programs, the PC runs a little slower---but not as bad as most.
Customer Rating: Summary: Still needs some improvement Comment: I was most excited to see the claim of:
"Faster performance
Now with quicker startup, shutdown, and scan times, it runs silently in the background without slowing down your PC so you can play games, watch videos, and use applications uninterrupted."
It DOES run faster than the previous version, but it does still cause interruptions while watching videos and playing games if it is running a scan.
Other than it not being quite fast enough, I love McAfee and have trusted McAfee with my desktop for the past 5 years, and now my netbook as well!
