Summary: Good value, easy installation...
Comment: Bitdefender Total Security 2010 has been working really well for me. It is a good value in that it provides protection for up to 3 PCs for 2 years. The programs was easy to install, user friendly and the updates are seamless. I'd never used Bitdefender, but have been very happy with the program and would recommended it without reservation for ease of use and value.

Summary: Surprisingly fast
Comment: Its extremely difficult to write a review for antivirus software. I'm unwilling to infect my computer and I don't really travel to problem sites that often. Furthermore I don't have any children so I always turn off parental controls. I did however load this onto my netbook, and even when it was running a scan on the background the computer did not slow down significantly, which is my biggest complaint with virus scan software in general. So use in good health.

Summary: 2 year coverage, good deal
Comment: I chose to install BitDefender on a desktop and Laptop at the same time. The box allows for 3 computers and covers two years which I find to be great. The desktop runs Vista, and the laptop XP. It gave me the choice to load from the disk or download the newer version online. I chose online for the pc and off the disk for laptop. The download took 7 minutes on DSL installed in 3 minutes, then rebooted, put the settings as I wanted in an easy to follow. Started scanning. The laptop took longer but I am not sure why (maybe it updated) - its older, almost full, but in the end scanned and found some registry errors for me. They have both been running fine, quick start up and reminds me when I need to scan, you can set it to do everything for you or nothing without you, or a bit in the middle. I chose the middle, it reminds me and I choose. I am happy with it.

Summary: Patience Patience Patience
Comment: I have no worldly idea how many software packages I installed over the past 25 years or more; however, not one has been as troublesome as this one has been. After deleting other security programs and attempts at installing Bitdefender I finally installed it on the Vista laptop. Every attempt to install it on an XP machine resulted in my failure. I quickly say that I do not blame the software. I blame myself for the failure for not getting it on the XP. Any number of unknown issues may have caused the failure. As far as the laptop's use with Bitdefender my only complaint is that it does slow the machine's operation some but not enough for it to be an issue. The program must work with few problems. I have not been hacked, phished etc and therefore it does what it says at least on one machine.
Bottom line: it works but I cannot recommend it highly.

Summary: A Word of Warning
Comment: As a former customer of Bit Defender here are a couple of important cons missing:
1) Customer Support is near non-existant.
2) The moment your subscrition expires they shut off the program completely (not just withholding updates, there is a piece in their program that disables the program as a whole).
While I can't speak for 2010, their 2008 edition would every so often hang and not be able to update until you uninstalled an reinstalled. While the protection is good, this program is a hassle to deal with.
